[Pro] Problems with Google Map not showing.

Hi everyone,
I have 2 other websites that use the Google Maps action and they are working absolutely fine but this page is an annoyance http://cheapercallsoverseas.com/contact.html
I have added an API key because it was asking for one and the map did show briefly but is now not working at all. Shows in preview fine.
Previous to this I tried the basic method which did not need an API key and the map did not load once uploaded so not sure what is going on.
Any ideas anyone ? This has really got me stumped.

Hi Mark,
I did make a similar experience some days ago. (I have used the Google Maps action a lot of times. Always fine.)
This time the map was always visible correctly in FW preview, but never online at the domain itself. Just a blank space.

I thought that it is because Google asks for the API key, which is quite new.
My customer did not want to get the key, so I dropped it.

It would be interesting though to know more about the matter.

Cheers, Hanna

I’m having the same issue…my google map shows up fine in preview, but doesn’t show on the site. I need this working for client ASAP and have no clue what to do. Anyone have any ideas as to why this isn’t working?

Have a look at https://freewaytalk.softpress.com/thread/view/171436

Seems that Google are now requiring an API key again

Once you have a Key add it in the maps action interface

Google has changed their terms effective June 22nd, as posted here:

https://developers.google.com/maps/pricing-and-plans/standard-plan-2016-update

I think the most annoying thing is actually digging your way through Google’s console, which is a mess, very confusing.

I’m not sure whether the 25.000 maps loads per day limit was previously enforced or not, but I’m guessing the API key requirement is only marginally relevant. If you have 100k map loads per day Google definitely charged for it and does as well now.

One way to work around getting the key is to use the share feature of the public website at https://maps.google.com — find the location, hit the share button, switch from share link to embed map in the popup and then copy the code over. The downside of this is the map options are extremely limited, both in map size and features such as markers or colors.

Hope this helps.

Duncan
