[Pro] Program error

Hi all,

I’m having a problem using file upload.

The program gets so far but then stops and says
“Cannot upload file because of program error”

Any ideas?

Hi Neil,

Are you using 5.5? Try setting the FTP Mode option to Passive.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the fast response.

I’m using Freeway Pro 5.

I upload the document to a file copy and then use flow to upload to the web space.

I can’t see the option for passive when using ‘Upload to File copy’.

When I preview the web site in Freeway using Safari, all works well.

I only have a problem when uploading to ‘file copy’

Is there a limit to the size of web site freeway can handle? My site is approx 40 pages and needs to get bigger still.

Thanks

Neil

No, no limit (other than disk space). Try the following:

Go to the Document Setup dialog and choose a new Site Folder.
Go to the Edit>Resources dialog and choosing Resample All.

If the upload still fails then try restarting it. If it still fails then let me know exactly what it says in the error dialog.

That doesn’t sound much like it should be a problem, unless you have
some really truly large files on any of those 40 pages. There’s no
real limit to the number of pages you can have in a Freeway file. The
whole program gets slow around 400 pages or so, but it shouldn’t throw
a program error.

One thing to try is to resample all of your images. Open File/Edit
Resources, and press the Resample All button. Go get coffee. Okay the
dialog when it’s done, and try publishing again. Another thing to try
is to re-target your site folder. File/Document Setup, Document tab,
press the Select button. Create a completely new folder through that
dialog, and then publish the site again and see if the problem
continues.

If you’re using a separate app to upload the site (not Freeway’s built-
in S/FTP) you don’t actually need to use the File Copy upload method
at all. Just copy all the files from the Site Folder (configured as
above). I used to use File Copy at one of my early jobs because we had
mapped the site root as an AppleShare volume, so I could mount the
server root to my desktop and use FIle Copy (since Windows NT FTP was
so flaky we had to restart the server every 8 hours if we used it at
all).

Hi Walter / Joe,

Many thanks for your responses. Very, very much appreciated.

Massive relief to get it going again. I tried resampling the images but to no avail.
I then tried uploading to a new folder and hey presto !

Thanks again,
Neil

The above was suggested by Waltd. I did both and it solved my problem which was and error that would not allow me to save my site after doing a lot of detail work on it. I didn’t want to just quit and lose all the changes.

This was the message:

Could not save as’brushwoodstudios.freeway’
because of a program error.
