[Pro] Question about fonts

I was wondering whether anyone could give me a suggestion about what fonts work best on both Mac and Windows platforms.

I assumed that the limited font selection drop down menu when working with html text in FW contained safe fonts.

Anyway, I set a page with Times, a font I find very readable – the site I’m creating for a friend will have lots of text. It looked fine on the Mac, but then when I looked at it in Windows (Vista) running in my VMWare virtual machine, it didn’t look nearly as good.

I changed it to Helvetica, and it looked fine on both platforms. The problem is that sans serif fonts tend to be harder to read in long passages.

So, I was wondering whether anyone can suggest a safe serif font that usually looks good on both platforms?

Try Georgia. I think it looks better on both Mac and Windows for screen display.

Here’s a useful site for comparing screen fonts for use in Web design: http://www.typetester.org/

Michael, thanks for the suggestion of Georgia. I think it looks great both on the Mac and Windows. I also appreciate the link. That’s a great site.
