[Pro] Question for Delta Dave

Hi, Dave –

Sorry to ask a direct question, but this wasn’t answered when I posted it before so I thought I’d shoot it your way.

I’ve noticed a recent trend in web design where people are including a lot of white space and are using color bars that span the entire width of the screen.

Here’s an example: http://rhhbschool.com

Here’s my question: How is that done? I tried to do it by creating a super-wide page and centering my graphics, but it didn’t work. You can see the test here:

Can you help me figure this one out?

Thanks!

– Jamie

Hi Jamie

There are a few ways that you can do this - one of the easiest being a tiling background image.

If you look at http://www.deltadesign.co/fw_examples/CSSstuff/multiple_bg.html - Ignore the other stuff on the page!

You will see the effect you want is created using the bg image which you can download from http://www.deltadesign.co/fw_examples/CSSstuff/Resources/purpleheader.gif

This image is set to repeat only horizontally but should be made as tall as the tallest of the pages where you want to use it. 25px X page height will be adequate. (Horizontal:Tile, Vertical:Top)

You can see a small version of the image on the LHS of the example page.

Excellent, Dave. Thanks for the update. I knew you’d have the answer.

I’ll give this a try and let you know if I have any questions.

Cheers,
Jamie

You can also learn how to make inline layouts in Freeway Pro – I use a
basic inline layout like this one to achieve that effect:
