[Pro] Quicker Loading Times

I have one website in particular that I have built in FW. It seems to take longer than most sites to load. It is quite a big site. Lots of pages and quite a few photo galleries. It doesn’t have any flash on it.

It there a way that I can make it load a bit quicker? Is there something I can do to condense the code in FW?

Things to watch out for are file sizes of images mostly. Do you have a link to the site in question which would help better dissect any issues at hand?

The website is www.kiwiprom.com

The slower pages in particular are:

www.kiwiprom.com/ideas/kiwipromoscars2011.php

www.kiwiprom.com/ideas/kiwipromgoldenglobes.php

www.kiwiprom.com/ideas/celebritytrends.php

The site seems be to super slow right now. I don’t know if this is a problem with my internet connection or the site.

Thanks for your help.

Image size and quantity of images - www.kiwiprom.com/ideas/kiwipromoscars2011.php

This page is over 4Mb!

Less images and/or smaller file sizes.

www.kiwiprom.com/ideas/kiwipromgoldenglobes.php

Worse at 4.6Mb

What are sites like the following doing?

They are providing the same photo gallery and the page load time doesn’t seem as bad.

By smaller file sizes, do you mean lesser quality and smaller px size?

Would like kind of program work with FW?

They use a JQuery based slideshow set up. Looks to be using a simple fader rather than the Carousel action. Your image file sizes are somewhat large, but not unbearable. The demo site that you showed only uses 11, really 10, images in the rotation while you have significantly more.

Also, rule of thumb for me is always keep images at least 100 kb and below for slideshows, which you’ve done, however there are a couple of them over that.

Yes but you would have to redo the Webcrusher every time you made a change to yourv FW site.

More importantly adjust the output of your FW images in the inspector where you can set the quality as a % - I think the default is 85%.That is assuming that youn haven’t imported the images as pass-throughs.

Try adjusting downwards for selected images until you get a quality that you are happy with.

If you are using pass-throughs then adjust using PShops Save for Web settings.
