How can I reduce the carriage return space so that the subhead looks as if it belongs to the paragraph (body copy) that is underneath it. I have set CSS styles which means if I use a soft return the body takes on the same style as the subhead.
Is there a simple way around this?

The Space Before and Space After paragraph styles let you do this.
Either create a new style for them or select your text and go to the Style>Space Before/After menu.
