[Pro] relinking Arghhh!

Hi ya, I have moved my resource folder (FW5.5) but when I relink the files to the new resource folder and the quit. After opening again it has lost all my links? Why…
Thanks for your support.

It is not the Resource folder that you should be linking to. FW creates the Resource folder for you and is in control of its contents so they are in flux.

All Media should be stored in the Media folder (or elsewhere outside the Resource folder) and FW will manage the Resource folder and its contents.

Keep Out! of the Resource folder and its contents.

Thanks, but can you specify the media folder in Freeway then?

If you started from a Template then one will have been created for you. If not then you can create one and just ensure that you only import from within it.

As a rule I copy my originals into the Media folder and import from there.

Why are you having to relink?

If FW is telling you that you have Missing Resources then when you Edit>Resources you have to Locate the Original file that you imported into FW.

The file that is in the Resources folder is created by FW from the original so if you link to the file in the Resource folder then you will create an impossible loop.

Find your original files and link to them - or better still copy your original files into the Media folder and link to them.

I lost the original harddrive and had to use files from my back up drive.
There are a lot of files, some of them have stayed linked other havent.
I know where all the files are, it’s just that FW isn’t seeing them. So if I put all the files into one folder and then start to relink the files again from that one folder, it should work?
Thanks for your help BTW [;

If you copy all the files into 1 folder ie a Media folder then quite often when you relink to 1 file in that folder then FW will ‘find’ the rest.

It sounds that your FW document is using the cached version of these actions.

Have you tried reinstalling the actions in FW7?

After reinstalling you might have to remove the action from the page/item, publish, reapply the action and publish again.
