I have redesigned a page completely while leaving the original untouched. I do not want to change the file name, which appears in the url, because there are sites linked to it.
So if I enter the old file name for the newly designed page and delete the original page, will Freeway play nice and just replace the page without changing the url?
Change the original first - because you cannot have 2 pages with the same file name - and then give the new page the originals file name and finally delete the original.
One thing that you will have to be careful of is making sure that your internal links remain intact.
When you go to delete the original page FW will tell you if there are pages linked to it and ask you what you want to do about those links.
Thanks Dave. It took me a little while to complete the redesign You were of course correct about the links to the page. Had to redo them all. Why is this when the page has the same title and url?
Why is this when the page has the same title and url?
Because FW stores the internal reference to the page not via its filename or url but to the physical page whatever it is called.
That is why when you simply change a page file name the link remains intact rather than what you did which was create a new page.
What I would have done is work on my new page until I was happy with it and then copy/paste its content into the old page. This is not always practical ie if your new page was based on a different Master.
