[Pro] Responsive CSS Menus don't work - FW7

Hi,

I build a website with a responsive CSS Menu and when I test it local on my computer it works fine. Then I uploaded it to my website I it doesn’t work. The menu doesn’t open when I click on the symbol.

I tested it with Safari, Firefox and my HTC mobile browser.

On the website below I created a simple responsive CSS Menu that changes to symbol at 480px.

Thanks, Tobi

My fault. I forget to upload the fwResponsiveMenus.js file.

But when I open the site with my HTC mobile browser the menu still doesn’t work.
I tested it also with an Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and it still doesn’t work.
When I open the site with an iPhone it works.

Why does the menu not work on a Android phone?

Thanks, Tobi

As I see there is a problem with the stock mobile browser on android. When I use Firefox or Chrome the responsive menu works find.

Only with the stock mobile browser the menu doesn’t work. I can neither click or select the menu symbol.

Has anyone an idea how to fix that?

Thanks, Tobi

there is a problem with the stock mobile browser on android

This may depend on what version of Android your HTC is running.

Hi David,

I tested it on HTC One with Android 4.4.2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.3. Both with the stock browser.

Is there any chance to fix that problem?

Thanks.

I think that you should fire this question straight at softpress ie support(a)softpress.com - I can see the issue using an android device but I have no way of debugging from it.

I am sure that Softpress will have the resources to do it.

I find this one a little disturbing guys, responsive (HTML5/CCS3) websites should work in all modern browsers.

When I/we build sites we go to great lengths to make sure that they work in all modern browsers no matter what platform they are on. While I accept that there is always going to be the odd situation that they won’t, the devices listed in this post are not exactly fringe so I would expect no issues at all.

Can we get some confirmation on this please, from Softpress directly if possible as to me this is a very serious issue.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Gary

Have you sent a direct request to support(a)softpress.com yet? While they are frequently here on the user-to-user lists, they are not reading every last message.

Hi. I got an answer from Softpress.

"Hi Tobias

I personally don’t have an Android phone of any kind (let alone very specific phones) - and I’m afraid none of our Support staff have them either. We only have iPhones and iOS devices of various kinds.

However, Browserstack <browserstack.com> shows me that on an HTC One and a Galaxy S3 the CSS Menu shows up fine (see my screenshots).

When the icon is clicked on, the resulting menu is not just a dropdown which lets you see the page content behind it - when you click on the icon you are shown a full page which is the single-column navigation menu (the color of the background above and below the main and sub-menus is chosen in the Overlay Color option in the CSS Menu’s Responsive section of the Actions palette). Note that the colors of the main menus and submenus (Normal, Hover, Current Page, etc.) are taken from the Background section of the Actions palette.

When you visit the site, please can you tell us exactly what happens. Do you see the icon at the top of the page? Are you saying that touching the icon on the screen doesn’t do anything? Did you use the “Auto generate” function to automatically build the navigation menu (or did you set up a list inside an HTML item)? Have you tried setting up the menu so that each menu links to a page (which they don’t appear to do at the moment)?

If you have been testing over and over, it might be that you need to clear the cache of the mobile device you’re using (but to do that you’ll need to read the documentation of that phone).

It would be good for you to take a screenshot of what you see on each phone (if possible) and send them in as an attachment. Also, can you please send in your sample file (just the Freeway file) to see if there is something on there which is preventing it from working. You can attach a file of up to around 8MB as an attachment - if it’s any larger than that, please zip up the file and send it through one of the free file transfer companies, such as WeTransfer.com or Hightail.com

Best regards"

I will do some tests and will stay in contact with Softpress. If there any news, I’ll tell you.

Hi Tobias,
I’ve been looking at this issue myself and I’d be interested to know if this fix resolves the issue on the Android devices you are testing on?

Hi Tim,

I have had the same problems with the stock Android browser, 4.1.2 on a Samsung Galaxy 4g LTE. I viewed your test page and the problem remains and is consistent. When you tap on the menu icon nothing happens. If you rotate the phone the menu will appear. Closing is the same thing. I have contacted Softpress abou this and can only hope they can provide a fix to the action, soon. I need to launch my site and time is of the essence. All other sites I have viewed that have a mobile menu work fine. It is a Freeway issue with this specific browser and maybe others as well.

Hi Adrian (and others),

Sorry for the inconvenience. We’re looking into it now and will let you know when a fix is available.
