[Pro] Responsive Editable Slideshow

I’m looking for a solution for a slideshow that my client can edit, and also be responsive. I used to create an editable fading slideshow using Web Yep and Target/Showhide, but that won’t work if I want it to be responsive. Is Slideshow Pro the only alternative?

There must be a clever way to do this.

Hi Billy,
What sort of control does your client need for these galleries? Do they just need to add and remove their own images, captions as well as sort them in order?
I’ve used Pulse (http://www.pulsecms.com) quite a bit in the past and the two gallery modules (one lightbox and the other slideshow) are quite easy to use as a basis for any new gallery styles. I’ve created custom galleries based on existing frameworks for Pulse including this one which displays the images in a single horizontal scrolling area;

Alternatively if you want to manage the images in an online service like Flickr (https://www.flickr.com) then I’m sure you could pull them in and display them using their API framework on your own site.
Regards,
Tim.

Mt client just needs to change out images now and then. I have never used Pulse although I have heard of it. Does it work similarly to how Web Yep Works? Do I need to build the Website inside of Pulse? I am so used to Web Yep but I’m open. Perhaps you could send me an example of how you implemented it into Freeway. I imagine Pulse is responsive too, correct?

Hi Billy,
The thing about a system like Pulse is you can dip in and just use the bits that you need. You could manage the whole site in the CMS or just a single gallery it is up to you. The only requirement would be to make the gallery page PHP as it gets included into the page by Pulse. You’d be using the CMS to manage the images (uploads, edits, etc) but not any of the other CMS features.

Pulse itself isn’t responsive (any more than any other CMS) but the gallery you feed the images through would be. All the CMS is doing is managing the images for you.
Regards,
Tim.

Dave,
So Pulse will let me create a slideshow of images that are editable and responsive? What I want to do is is a slideshow like you would see here that my client can edit.

Not Dave but Tim…

Here’s a simple example of the built in flex slider in Pulse;
http://pulse.plumb-design.com/

The images and captions are all added through Pulse’s own gallery tool via the admin area and the gallery front end ensures that the images are displayed in a responsive manner.
Download the Pulse demo (http://pulsecms.com) and give it a go. The only stipulation is that the page the gallery is embedded into is PHP enabled.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Billy… look at envato or codecanyon for a big amount of sliders… or
at jstyler.net… jstyler offers a slider with a very extended online cms
and will soon be responsive they told me last week.

Hey Tim,
Thank for Pulse. It was so easy that I thought I must be doing this wrong but yay success. Do you know if the are plug-ins for Pulse for different control styles or non controls and or transitions?

Hi Billy,
Unfortunately Pulse predefines a lot of the settings for flexslider to keep things simple. If you want to change the transitions, the speed or any other aspect of the slider then you’ll nee to manually adjust one of the PHP files that Pulse uses. Simply open the file up in a plain text editor and add your own settings based on the flexslider documentation.
More info here;
http://pulsecms.com/blog-53-pulse-pro-182

If you want to swap out the controls you’ll need to manually add your own image in place of the existing web font that flexslider uses. This will require a little CSS work to get set up but can still be easily achieved.
Regards,
Tim.

Thanks Tim,
That should be pretty easy. Thank you for this solution. Each new website I build brings on a new challenge. Luckily after several years working with Freeway I have an arsenal of options and this forum is really educational and teaches a designer like me to think about function.
