[Pro] Retitle Page and Search Engines

I would to find out some more information about the difference between:
(1) the action “retitle page”
(2) the meta name=“title” content=“my content here”.

I’m concerned about how the information is searched by search engines. I’d like to be able to put some information in the meta title and customize it for search engine purposes, but I’d like the retitled page to be different with basically few words so that it looks good in the
browser tab.

Is this possible? Or do they have to be the same? If they are different, does one override the other in terms of the search engines picking it up?

For example,I would like to have a page with the meta title information as “The Page: Alpha, Beta, Delta” AND the page retitled with the action as “Welcome Everyone”. The one that needs to be searched is the meta name title, but the retitled content doesn’t.

Thank you.

Unfortunately there is no meta tag called ‘title’. There is a title tag
() that you can set in the inspector palette and this will be reflected
in the document name and in the site panel.
I created the Retitle page action simply because I wanted to prefix or suffix
the page names with something like "FreewayActions.com >> ". Doing this in the
inspector palette is both time consuming, boring and results in a site palette
where all of the pages look like they have the same name.
You could use a block of JavaScript to adjust the page name once the page has
loaded so that your title tag will say one thing but users will see something
else but this could get you penalised by the search engines if they think you
are attempting to trick your users.
My suggestion would be to add your page keywords to the page title and to the
keyword and description meta tags although meta data isn’t the magic bullet to
search engine rankings it once was.
Regards,
Tim.
