[Pro] Safari vs Firefox Viewing Problems

I’ve been using Pro5 to manage our movie theater’s website, and always feel like I’m a bit over my head.

Currently, I’m having two problems. First, I did a redesign earlier this summer and I can make things look nice in Safari and IE, but Firefox is completely unpredictable, including big chunks of text that don’t appear, wildly different layout proportions. If you want to check it out, the website is www.cinemasalem.com.

Second, our page always gets messed up if the viewer asks any browser to enlarge the text. When I enlarge text on major websites, the whole page enlarges, but on ours, just the text does.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Paul,
I will probably screw up the terminology here but…part of the text resizing problem has to do with the fact that your layers are not ‘inline’ items. So when one area of the page grows when text is re-sized other items do not ‘grow’ at the same rate. One small fix might be to make your html boxes that have the movie synopsis have an undefined height. In the html inspector un-highlight the height icon, this will allow those html boxes to grow at the same rate the that the text grows. You can also just try to redeisgn the site so it accommodates at least 3 or 4 text re-sizes without messing up the readability.

Another thing that will help is to take a look at Dan’s Box Model tutorial, it is hard to get at first (I’m still struggling with it…it is a great way to start to understand some of the functions of creating inline box model sites)
