[Pro] ScriptyFader and ScriptyLightbox 2 issues on IE

Freeway Pro 5.4.3 - I built a new site and everything works and looks great on FireFox or Safari. The issue starts with Internet Explorer. Half of the pages have NewsCycle and ScriptFader and the other half has ScriptyLight Box 2 actions.

When viewed in IE the ScriptyFader does not show, but the NewsCycle does. Also on the other pages that have the ScriptyLight Box 2 action, when the thumbnail is selected it shows up behind the thumbnails and to the left, instead of in front and center.

I changed the Compatibility to all three choices; Normal, IE6/IE7, IE7 and everything stays the same for each upload.

I changed the HTML: from 4.01 Transitional to XHTML 1.0 Trans. and again the same results.

I then went to the IE “Tools” function and turned on the “Compatibility” function and everything worked - except the CSS Menu shifted from the left to the right side of the page.

I placed a banner on the Welcome page, telling the viewer that they need to turn on this function in order to view the site properly. I don’t believe they should have to do this function.

Why do they have to do this?
What can I do to correct the issue for Internet Explorer visitors?
How do I prevent this in the future?

Thank you in advance for your input.

I am sorry to say it doesn’t look right in Safari 5.1.2 either

Are you using the RPL action by any chance?

I am also seeing some PHP database connect code on your contact page which shouldn’t be there.

Have you pasted some code in the Page>HTML Markup before HTML slot? If so get it out because it has stuff in there that shouldn’t be seen by Joe Public!

Other things you will have to look at are file naming and file size

This one is a bad example of both http://www.davidalanstudio.com/Resources/headboard%202.JPG.png

Not only has it got a space character in it and a JPG suffix but a PNG one too. And to top it off it is 6.7Mb - that is HUGE!

Dave:

Not using any RPL action that I am aware of. I actually use a template called Carousel I found on Freeway and made some changes.

As for the Contact page I am removing the two hidden actions.

I see nothing in the HTML Markup. Can you be more specific as to what and where you saw the info?

Please update to the very latest version of the Actions, they have all been updated to improve their compatibility with IE, particularly IE9. Also consider updating to the latest Freeway, for the same reason. If you use any of the built in FX Actions along with my Scripty Actions, you will have a 50% or worse chance of getting the old Prototype/Scriptaculous libraries instead of the newer versions, because it’s unpredictable which Action will attach the libraries to the page, and the built-in Actions in any version of Freeway older than 5.6.2 don’t have the newest libraries.

Walter:

Unfortunately, I am running OS X 10.4 and the latest Freeway isn’t compatible. Sounds like I am trying to use actions that just won’t do what I expected.

When I downloaded the actions I always made sure to choose V.5 and not 5.5. I had assumed that I wouldn’t have issues so long as I used the correct version for Freeway 5 as depicted in the download options.

I will update all actions again and see if I can make a little more head way.

Thanks, David

The problem is that IE hasn’t stayed put. What used to work to spackle over its bugs doesn’t do the trick in the newest versions. If you use the new version of the Action, you’re still going to get the older libraries because the code that I use in the Action to determine which version of the library to include hinges on the Freeway version. I’m sorry to tell you this, but you’re either going to have to upgrade your Mac OS and Freeway, or use another visual effect. As long as you have IE9 customers, you will definitely not be happy.

Had a feeling you were going to say that. Back to the chalk board.

Walter, is there an action group you would suggest that I look at based on what I was trying to accomplish? Should I go with the Carousel orFancybox instead?

Fancybox doesn’t depend on any libraries, and so it may have a fighting chance. That will replace ScriptyLightbox pretty well. I don’t know what you might try instead of NewsCycle – maybe the nasty old Ticker Tape (built into Freeway).

Thanks Walter, I’ll try the Fancybox. The NewsCycle seemed to function fine when I viewed it in IE8. Again, thanks for your help.
