[Pro] Selection Tool Not Working On A Graphic Item

Let me start off by establishing that I am a newbie, so please be kind. Thank you.

I have gone through the tutorials and I am attempting to create my own site by following the same steps. I am getting hung up where I attempt to add graphic items to a master page and then select them using the selection tool. While there may be other ways to layer items (i.e. to make a navigation button), my questions are:

1). Why doesn’t the tool work over a graphic item placed on a master page?

2). Why is it that, when I click on a random area on the master page, the content disappears. It reappears again when I click on Master 1 under the Master Page Folder.

Thank you in advance for your patience and assistance.

A crucial help to understanding layered items on the FW page is the Page/item display at the left of your FW window. By default the section is headed up Site but click on this to change it page and you will see all the items on your FW page listed.

page_view

The lower the item in the list the nearer the top of the stack of layered items.

You can select an item in this list rather than clicking on it on the page itself. With it selected using the enter key will ‘open’ it for editing if it is an HTML box. (it will insert the text cursor)

Why is it that, when I click on a random area on the master page…

You are not actually selecting the item but the layer above it.

Does this help?

Just as an addendum to this - if your item list contains indented items

page_view

Then that is showing you that certain items are contained within others (inline)

In my example you will see that item1 contains item2 (and item 2b and item6) which in turn contains items 3 and 5.
