Is it possible to fill a Graphic Item with a color (say pale grey) such that its color is “semi-transparent”, ie not opaque, so that any items underneath it show (to some degree) through it.
I am trying to get an effect similar to a “lightbox” (but not an actual working lightbox).
Draw an HTML box, click on the Style tab and choose the graphic background color option – not the background color option on the first tab, and you will see an opacity slider under the color picker. You can turn that down to whatever you like.
Hi Walter
I did what you said (after using Window > Styles & Colors to bring the palette on-screen, I don’t usually have it open!) and I can apply colors from it OK, and the Opacity slider is there at the bottom as you said, but it is always grayed out, so I can’t get to use it!
Wait! I’ve got it! You said “draw an HTML box” but the Opacity slider only becomes available when I draw a “Graphic” rectangle/oval, not if I start by clicking “HTML” from the ‘toolbar’ at the top and then use the crosshairs to draw a box.
Sorry, I misunderstand your instruction to “Draw an HTML box”.
I did mean an HTML box, but the part you might have missed was to
apply the background as a graphic background, not the regular
background color. You do that in the Graphic Effects segment of the
Style tab.

Aha, I’m using FreewayPro 4.3.2, and I don’t think I have “Graphic Effects” or “Background” with an Opacity slider, as you show in the “HTML Item” palette.
Maybe your screenshot is from FW5?
Anyway, you’ve solved my problem, so thanks once again! Philip
Not quite there, yet! Although the gray panel (Black, with Opacity setting 30% ) looks “transparent” in Freeway (items underneath show through nicely) when the site is uploaded and viewed in my browsers (FF3.5 and Safari 4/both Mac) it is just an opaque panel of gray, obscuring everything underneath!
Any thoughts on why this “opacity” setting isn’t being honored in the browser? FW Pro 4.3.2
Set the object to be a PNG-24 in the Output tab of the Inspector (PNG
with Millions of colors) and you will see a fully-transparent result.
I agree that it’s poor form of Freeway not to warn you in the design
view when the object is set to export as a JPEG.
