Hello Tim or anybody who coud help me out with this:

I’ve downloaded the new Showcase Extra action and read on this thread that this is a page action. I must be doing something wrong, because I can’t find this action on Page Action. I opened the page added the Showcase Gallery/Slideshow I’ve created and looked at the page action and can’t see it. Please let me know what’s wrong.

Thanks in advance,
Marcus

Curious…

I opened another page and now I see the showcase extra action…
I realized that the page I was trying to add it before has the carousel action and also a show/hide layer and the protaculous.

Is the Showcase action incompatible with any of these?

Thanks,
Marcus

The Actions palette, like most things in Freeway, is contextual. It
shows a different set of content based on your current selection. So,
for example, if you had a box on the page selected (handles showing)
you would not see any of the currently-applied Page Actions in the
Actions palette. You would only see the Actions you had applied to
that box.

Hi Walter!

Yes, this I understand, but I have nothing selected on the page and can’t see the action. I also created another page on the same document, applied the Showcase Gallery/Slideshow and looked for the Showcase action and still can’t find it…on the other hand on another document I follow the same process and the action is there, which makes me think that the problem isn’t the page or any action I added before but the document. Maybe something different on the document setup…?

best,
Marcus

Hi Marcus, one of two, 1- your FW version is not compatible with the
action 2- the download has an error ( try again). Good Luck

Hi Julio,
That’s what I thought first and already deleted the showcase extra action I had and downloaded it again, but the fact that it works in one document and doesn’t on another tells me that neither option 1 or 2 is the case. Thanks anyway!

best,

Marcus

I can’t imagine how these Actions could affect one another. As far as
I know, all that the Showcase Extras Action does is upload a different
sprite image in place of the stock one.

Thanks Walter. I don’t think it’s a incompatibility problem anymore, because I created another page in the same document that doesn’t have these actions and it didn’t work either, but did work in another document I created which makes me think it’s a document setup problem that I dont have a clue… :slight_smile: I’ll keep looking for the solution

Thanks Walter and Julio!

Close all currently open documents in Freeway, but leave Freeway
running. From the main menu, select Edit / Actions. In the resulting
tree of checkboxes, search for the Showcase Extras Action. If it’s
unchecked, check it, and as they like to say on Mythbusters, “…well
there’s your problem right there…”

Yes! That worked!

Well, next Wednesday on Mythbusters they will say…“well there (was) your problem right there…” hahaha
Nice, Walter! I would burnt a lot of neurones trying to find the solution before I could find it…

Thanks a lot

What about the possibility of changing the style of the buttons? For me it would be something thinner, more delicate and less obtrusive.

Hi Ralf,
Take a look at the Showcase Extras Action (http://actionsforge.com/actions/view/226-showcase-extras). It allows you to change the look of the buttons for one of thirteen built in styles or simply choose your own.

If you want to create your own button styles use this one as a template and save your final image as a 24-bit PNG;
http://www.freewayactions.com/test/showcase-controls/steel.png
You can then select the image using the Action where it will get used for the gallery controls.

I’d be keen to see what you manage to do with it so if you do use the Action and make your own buttons please come back and share the results.
Regards,
Tim.

I have started experimenting with new arrow styles in Illustrator. Seems to work and I will post examples when they are complete. Now what I would really like to learn is how to move the buttons off the photograph and onto the background. Is that possible?

Hi Ralf,
It certainly is. Where do you want the controls exactly? Under the image on the left or right?

Essentially all of this trickery happens through CSS styles and we can add a single line of CSS to the head of the page as markup to position the controls where you like relative to the image. For example add the following code (if you can see the ~ lines then ignore them) to Page > HTML Markup > Before and the controls should appear below the lower right hand corner of the image;

<style type="text/css">
<!--
.fwShowcase_controls { bottom:-32px !important; }
-->
</style>

Have a play around with that number until you get your controls the right distance from your images. if you want the controls on the left the code changes to;

<style type="text/css">
<!--
.fwShowcase_controls { left:0 !important; bottom:-32px !important; }
-->
</style>

When I get a chance I’ll add these options into the Showcase Extras Action which should make placing your controls a matter of adding a few numbers into the Action.
Regards,
Tim.
