[Pro] Showcase

Is there any documentation for Showcase and the ‘Showcase - Gallery/Slideshow’ Action? What are the two panes on the right of the application window for?

I have a site that I look after for free that started at about FW 3 and has been re-published with extra or updated pages under most of the versions of FW up to the latest. The latest images are in a Showcase page at:
http://tci-owners.org.uk/picsoct2011.html
My use of Showcase is basic. No use of ‘Showcase extras’ and most effects (borders, padding etc.) set to zero.

If you look at it you will see that the slideshow has 18 slides, but only 15 appear in the thumbnails. The remaining three can be seen briefly as the thumbnails scroll. Anyone any idea why?

The last slide has no controls. Is this because it is a different shape to the others?

I can’t get the main image captions to show. With a ‘Large Image Settings’ ‘Caption Height’ of 40px they’re not there, and the image controls are half off the bottom of the image and so the lower half does not show. As I increase the ‘Caption Height’, more and more of the image controls are over the image (layer-wise), but no captions appear. As published now, the ‘Caption Height’ is the max of 100px. Safari’s ‘Inspect Element’ shows that the box for the main image caption is beneath the thumbnails (layer-wise).

I’m probably doing something wrong, but with no document to say what ‘right’ is it’s hard to tell.

Hello David,

As far as I can see the panels on the right are for selecting images from iPhoto and maybe Aperture, if you have them installed. They should show up in the top panel and then whatever selection you make in the top panel is then shown in the bottom one. If you don’t have iPhoto or Aperture installed then these panels I guess will be empty.

When I have use the captions on the large image I found it easier to use a very small number for the caption height which results in the text sitting on the image. I found this better than trying to squeeze the titles under the image as the spacing was a bit of an issue.

I’m not sure if I can help regards the other issues but I’ll have a further look and see if I can work anything out.
I’ve not use Showcase a lot but I do hope that it can be extended and improved as it is a feature which I find I could use a lot more.

Thanks. The right hand pane being blank was an iPhoto problem. When I
opened iPhoto on my iMac where I was running Showcase it asked me
which library to use, although it only offered the one where the
personal library usually is. Once I’d confirmed the library location
a restart of Showcase did as you said it would.

After much searching I eventually discovered some documentation in
the main FW ‘Using’ document. I still get some weird things happening
with the thumbnails of a slideshow - fractional thumbnails,
thumbnails missing.
