[Pro] Simple include pro does nothing obvious

FW 5.5

Hi every one!

I am trying to implement a Simple Include Pro, thus dynamically copying an existing html page to another page. I believe I followed the instructions from http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=018 but the create Simple Include Pro item stays stubbornly blank.

I am not sure how to test this. Can it be tested only on a loaded site or can it be as well previewed from FW and /or locally tested? In all these cases my page stays empty.

The use simple include page is http://www.celticcenter.eu/fi/untitled2.html

The create simple include page is http://www.celticcenter.eu/tiedotteet/tiedote05.2010.html

What could I have done wrong here? I have to say I am not sure of the option in the create action… What does it do?

These actions are great… when they work. Debugging them is not easy.

Hi Claude,
When you first started your site did you base it on an existing
template (even the blank one) or did you use the custom site setup? I
ask because it appears that the action has problems locating the
include with FW 5.5 and the custom set up.
If you use the template set up then the action will locate the include
file and add it to any subsequent pages.
The name field in the create action allows you to give the include a
unique name - one that you can easily remember and use in the ‘Use’
action later in the site. The ‘remove item(s)’ option will delete the
items from the current page so they will only show up on the ‘use’
pages.
I hope this is a bit clearer fort you.
Regards,
Tim.

Hmm… I believe I used an existing template. Something like EnigmaGreen. I changed a lot to it, though. I don’t understand why this is relevant. How can I find out now?

Ok. But I am not sure what is the “custom setup”. Is the site doomed in terms of simple include pro action implementation if I did use it? Is there a fix?

Honestly, I wish it was, Tim. Trying to wonder what are my alternatives… Tx for your help anyway.

When you create a site using an existing template Freeway creates the
folder structure for the published site, media etc. Without this (and
using the custom setup) the action can sometimes lose track of the
generated include file.
If your site folder is within another folder with a media folder then
I would assume you are using a template.

Ok. But I am not sure what is the “custom setup”. Is the site doomed

If you create a new site in Freeway the application allows you to
start with either a template (where it creates the folder structure to
hold the site, files etc) or use custom setup and define the site
folder etc yourself manually.

The create action created a name. The name is “tiedote_05.2010”.
This is the strng I copy/pasted to the use action.

Search your machine for a file with ‘tiedote_05.2010’ in it. If you
can’t locate it then I suspect you are using a site that was created
using the custom setup and the action is having problems locating the
site folder. If you find the include file then you can add this into
your pages using either the ‘use’ action or manually if you wish.

Tim.

When you create a site using an existing template Freeway creates the
folder structure for the published site, media etc. Without this (and
using the custom setup) the action can sometimes lose track of the
generated include file.

The folders/files that are currently implemented under the www/ folders are the following:

_blank.gif, centre.html, css/, en/, fr/, fi/, index.html, pngbehavior.htc, Resources/, tiedotteet/

Does it tellI certainly used a template?

If your site folder is within another folder with a media folder then
I would assume you are using a template.

Hmm… Couldn’t really understand what you meant. Sorry for being such a blockhead. What is the “media” folder? Is that a name in the FS?

Ok. But I am not sure what is the “custom setup”. Is the site doomed
in terms of simple include pro action implementation if I did use
it? Is there a fix?

If you create a new site in Freeway the application allows you to
start with either a template (where it creates the folder structure to
hold the site, files etc) or use custom setup and define the site
folder etc yourself manually.

I see. Well, after having created a few satisfying pages, I partly defined some of my folders above manually. I.e. fi/, fr/, en/, tiedotteet/. FW allowed me to do that, I even read somewhere such a recommendation for a multilingual site.

The create action created a name. The name is “tiedote_05.2010”.
This is the strng I copy/pasted to the use action.

I hope this is a bit clearer fort you.

Honestly, I wish it was, Tim. Trying to wonder what are my
alternatives… Tx for your help anyway.

Search your machine for a file with ‘tiedote_05.2010’ in it. If you
can’t locate it then I suspect you are using a site that was created
using the custom setup and the action is having problems locating the
site folder.

Well… The file certainly exists under the name “tiedote 05.2010.html” in the tiedotteet/ folder. I suspect 2 potential problems here:

  • The file name contains a space AND a dot on top of the dot extension prefix (.html), ie. 2 dots altogether. This name is accepted by FW
  • The action name converts the space character to an underscore, and keeps the left-side dot

Would this be a trouble in the use action code?

If you find the include file then you can add this into
your pages using either the ‘use’ action

It sounds good. Meanwhile, I removed the space character and the left-side dot from the included file name. Then I tried the following:

  • regenerating an include name by deleting/creating the use action, copy/pasting it to the use action wind: page still blank after reloading
  • copy/pasting manually to the use action a filename including the subdirectory, something like “tiedotteet/tiedote05-2010” or “tiedotteet/tiedote05-2010.html” or even “../tiedotteet/tiedote05-2010.html”. No difference in any of these cases after reloading: page blank

or manually if you wish.

How would I do that without manually duplicating the text? iframe perhaps? Some better idea?

Sorry for being long and picky. Tx again for your precious help

I am starting to lose hope using the “Simple Include Pro”. Documentation badly needed…
