[Pro] Simple Site Search

Hi all,

I have been playing with the Simple Site Search action for a few hours and although it looks very easy, I’m not able to let it work. My results page show a blank page. After some testing and changing, I now can’t get rid of an error when I try to preview the site:

“Simple Site Search - allMetaTags no properties”

Not sure what is going wrong. What is allMetaTags? This error wasn’t there before and now it is. Any suggestions are higly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marco

This article will explain you how you should apply the site mapper action to your website. If you still encounter issues after that, I think there is something wrong.

Hi DTP2,

Thanks. That is exactly what I did, the error is still there. I forgot to tell: After clicking the error away, a new error appears in a pop up window telling that publication is not possible due to a javascript error in the action.

I thought this could have something to do with the Externalize action I use on my site. So I made sure that the option ‘Externalize Javascript’ in the Externalize action is not checked.

Any other ideas?

OK, I started a fresh test document, and the action does work there. So I returned to the actual document and created a new folder with blank pages without any actions applied. Then I added the Simple Search action only to that folder. But still no luck…

I must be missing something, I just don’t know what it is. :-((

I know this is something I have to investigate myself. However it would be great to hear some suggestions in what direction I should look. I’m not a Javascript expert, so I have no idea what to look for.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

This is a very tricky one for us to diagnose without seeing your document.

If you have applied the 3 actions - 1 to the Site Folder, 2 to a text field where you want to input the search text and 3 to the page where you want the results to appear - then that should be it.

Confusingly these actions are all called Simple Site Search even though they are added differently.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply. I added everything as explained, and it works fine in a new document. But I have no idea where to begin looking for the solution, as it is a big site with quite some actions applied to several pages.

I did try to post both the search box and the results on a blank page without any CSS menus, actions or other elements. I guess that means that something goes wrong on one or more other pages.

If someone would like to have to look at the document, that would be highly appreciated. Although I would prefer not to share my site publicly, I could send the document, and I’d be willing to pay for this.

Thanks,
Marco

You would be as well to send it to support(at)softpress.com

How big is it Mb? If it is pretty big then they suggest you use a service to send the file.

Yes, maybe that’s the best thing to do. Thanks Dave!

After some more testing (on a different Mac at a different location) the error has gone and the action works great, love it!

One thing I’m wondering. Under the title of each search result, the description always starts with lower case instead of upper case. Not a big deal, I just noticed. Would be better to have an upper case there?
