I have a site that I want to split and use as two sites, business and personal, with links to each other. I have duplicated the freeway document, removed pages from each and saved the documents under 2 new names, retaining the one site resources folder that contains all the elements of each. I don’t wish to change any of the pages and I do not want to have to literally re-create all the pages for the second site. Since it seems that I cannot simply export the pages and portions of the existing site folder to a new site, my question is this - Can I just open each of the new documents and upload them to separate websites (new urls) on the server and expect the one resources folder to continue to serve both? I am assuming the publishing and upload of each will drop out the unnecessary resources. I realize that I will have to adjust all the existing internal links, but that’s no problem. Will this work or do I have to spend hours on a new, second site.??? Thanks for listening. Any thoughts and or suggestions?

Yes - but make sure you set a new site folder for each and they are both set to upload to your different URLs (folders). New Resources folders will be generated automatically as one cannot be shared between 2 documents.
How would each doc know what files belonged to the other?
If you have two Freeway documents set to publish into the same site
folder on your Mac, then they certainly can “share” the same Resources
folder, but they cannot share the same resources. Freeway will rename
any “colliding” filenames so there’s no ambiguity. But it is the
essence of splitting a site that you have multiple Freeway documents
publishing into the same directory structure on the server, so having
the same thing happen on your Mac is no problem.
The only thing that is even slightly odd is that you will need to go
through a little dance at first, publishing first one document, then
the other, then back to the first again, because otherwise you will
end up with some missing resources as the two split documents remove
the resources associated with the pages that were deleted during the
splitting process.
