[Pro] Starting with Carousel

Hi all,
I’m quite new to Freeway, so far I’ve used it (5.5 Pro) to update website for work (www.huntarchitects.co.uk). I want to add a carousel of revolving pics but I’m struggling to get started so any help/pointers would be much appreciated… I downloaded and tried to install the Carousel action pack, and Carousel 2, but all I can see in the Insert>Action Item menu is the Carousel Text Button and Tab Button. What am I missing at this basic step? Are there any getting-started tuts for Carousel?
Thanks in advance.

You would only use the Insert / Action Item menu to create inline (text) control elements. The other main Carousel Actions are applied to drawn, layered elements on your page. Simple example: Draw an HTML box, and fill it with some content. Duplicate it, and change the content. Now apply the Carousel 2 Action to the first box, and the Carousel 2 Pane Action to the second one. In the Actions palette, set the Pane to refer back to the original Carousel element, and set the Carousel to have an auto-glide time interval. Preview, and you will see the effect happen.

If you’re having difficulty applying these Actions to individual page elements, remember that you must have selected the item first (corner handles showing) and the element must be an HTML Layer or an inline (CSS) box.

Hi Again,

I’ve finally finished setting up the Carousel 2 scrolling front page the way I’d like it, many thanks for the help here, and when I preview the page in Safari it works well and looks great… But if I preview the site in either Chrome or Firefox I get a blank box with a “missing plugin” message. If I click to search/install the missing plugin it reports there is no suitable plugin available.

Is this just an issue in preview-mode or does this mean that if I publish the page it will only be visible to Safari users?

Thanks,
Emily

Can you publish the site somewhere public where we can inspect it? Unless you put plug-in content in the page, there’s nothing at all about Carousel 2 that will trigger this warning. Carousel 2 uses JavaScript, but no plug-ins are ever needed for that to work.

This sounds more like a dodgy image problem ie like a pass through .psd or something.

Thanks for both replies, and sorry for my slow response here, I work part-time so didn’t have access to the site folder I’m working on…

I’ve fixed the issue. At first I’d drawn an HTML box filled with an image, and couldn’t get that to work in Chrome or Firefox as I described. (All the images are .tiff or .jpeg and none are pass-through.)

I deleted all this, drew a Graphic box, and followed the same steps with the same images, and it works well in all browser previews now.

Thanks again.
Emily.

All the images are .tiff or …

The tiff images were the problem. Not a web ready format.

Stick them in a graphic box and FW will convert them to one.
