I have just designed this site which views ok on a desktop. However when I view on iphone / ipad I can see the grid lines for the table , this can clearly be seen on the footer of each page. any ideas ??

Personally I dislike tables for construction purposes and hey - you’re using FreewayPro. Tables are (still) excellent for wrapping certain kind of stuff such as form-fields but building the entire layout on tables is a bit GoLive outdated.
There is a known issue (I found after a quick google):
The idea behind menus is a list which indicates a self-contained project (links). A cluster of individual links might be a terrible idea, cause it indicates a couple of satellite pages but not the bespoken page project for search engines.
Conclusion:
The grid could disappear by wrapping the footer stuff in a single table-cell (nested tables). The better way is to re-structure the page towards DIVs - which are the green (CSS Button on) items on your page Freeway spoken.
I’ve seen it before. It’s just iOS Safari doing this. It can quite line up the edges of items when not displaying at a 100% pixel size and the underlying colour can leak through the gaps in his case white. Using a background black would stop this.
