[Pro] The future of Flash?

I’m starting to get into doing some animation work for some of my clients. I know that in the past Adobe Flash has been sort of the standard when it comes to animation, but I’ve heard that all of this is changing with HTML 5.

Having said that, what application do you suggest I purchase and learn to ready myself for whatever the new standard may be, or is it too soon to tell?

but I’ve heard that all of this is changing with HTML 5.

I think that it is not so much the advent of HTML5 but iOS.

Adobe have realised that they have lost the fight for Flash dominance in the mobile market as one of the biggest players - Apple - has refused to play ball.

As to animation software - that really depends on the sorts of animation you wish to create.

Hype is an HTML5 animation package but remember that there are plenty of IE versions out there that dont support HTML5 - anything less than IE9

The answer may be to continue to use Flash but with fallbacks for non-supported browsers ie using the iPhone/iPad redirect action to non Flash/HTML5 content.
