On April 21 Google rolled out their new “mobile” algorithm. I’ve tracked my traffic on Analytics and StatCounter for six days since then, and I’ve seen no decline in mobile traffic, even though I have opted not to go “responsive.”
I’m curious if others are finding that true for them, too. I’m wondering if this isn’t just another “Y2K” type of scare — much ado about nothing," or at least about very little.

Things like this have no immediate effect. It isn’t going to be like a switch being turned off. Search doesn’t work like that.
Besides this new algorithm is supposed to favour sites that are searched from a Mobile device, not a Tablet or Desktop.
So it doesn’t mean that your existing mobile visitors will stop coming. What it might mean is that someone searching for your specific type of site (on their Mobile) might no longer see you as a top result - if they do just now.
Instead mobile friendly sites may be ranked higher than they were before and higher than yours.

That very well could happen. Being in the nonprofit religious sector, I made a hopefully educated guess that in my niche there will be a lot fewer SEO experts than in the for-profit sector. If that turns out to be the case, I suspect that the number of nonprofit religious websites that jump ahead of me will be a smaller percentage than if I were in the commercial sector.
In any case, I ran all the numbers and variables and I estimate that my overall risk is that I might lose 5% of my total traffic. Being noncommercial, I can live with that.
