[Pro] Triggering the Move Layer Action

Another question that I’m hoping has a simple solution which I’m overlooking:

How does one trigger the Move Layer Action?

I’d like to trigger some items to move when a text item is clicked.

Thanks,
Robert

You can use the Rollover Action (inline text version) to do this.

Normally, you apply the Rollover Action to an object on the page, and it wraps that object in a link and allows you to trigger effects from a click on that link. However, if you place your text cursor (flashing I-beam) in the run of text where you want your link to appear, and choose Insert / Action Item / Rollover from the main menu, you will see a little yellow box appear in the run of text. Click once on that box, and use the Actions palette to set up your effect. You will need to add the link text through the Actions palette, since you cannot apply an Action to a run of text. But you will have access to all of the other goodies in the Target Actions – chain name, index number, etc. – that you would get when applying Rollover to a graphics box.

Walter –

Thanks, though I can only find Text Rollover, not Rollover. Are these two different actions? I’m not finding the “little yellow box” you mention.

While I can trigger an appearance of the graphic I’m attempting to move, the Move action is already in progress when the page loads. Also, I’d prefer to trigger the move on a mouse click rather than a rollover. Anyway to do that?

Yes, and you did find it with the Text Rollover. I don’t use that Action often enough to remember that it has a different name in each context.

If you set the Move Action to respond to a click (and set a color and index number) rather than the page load, you will get what you want. Just set it up to listen on the same “channel” that the Text Rollover is going to send on, and you should be all set.

Getting closer but still don’t have it.

As far as I can tell, Move Action only has settings for speed, direction (X & Y) and looping. I’ve added the Target Shoe/Hide Image Action which does properly show the targeted moving image when I roll over the assigned Text Rollover. However, I still have two problems. First, the targeted image has already started moving prior to my rolling over the text. Second, it is still triggering with the rollover rather than a click.

What am I overlooking?

You’re not. I was wrong. TransitionFX can be triggered from a click, but Move Layer cannot. Sorry to get your hopes up. TFX doesn’t do the kind of thing you’re looking to accomplish, either.

Well, isn’t that a disappointment.

In all the years SoftPress has been developing Freeway Pro, nobody has ever thought of triggering an object to move on a mouse click? Not that it would happen anytime soon but it would seem to be a relatively straightforward action.

Ah, if only I knew how to code and write actions. Then again, if I did, I probably wouldn’t be using Freeway.
