Your last comment made my laugh, Paul so I thought I’d add one more input into FreewTalk today.
If you use your phone to make calls, then clearly you, like myself, are of a certin age
They are apparently for surfing, texting, whatsapping, filming, youtubing, photography and other such persuits. Do people still talk?
Mobile devices are also great tools for learning, and if you have great content that people can learn from, then it needs to be ‘mobile friendly’ too.
It is quite simple to make a website respond like an app. More often than not it is the design and layout that gives it an app feel rather than any technology, but it all depends what you actually want to achieve. If you want to access the device camera or accelerometer then you are going to need a wrapper like PhoneGap to create a dedicated application. If you just want to do more conventional stuff, then building your site for specific screen sizes or better still, making the site responsive is the way to go.
There’s no reason why you can’t have a ‘conventional’ site and a separate mobile version that’s more app like in its functionality. In this site I made a few years ago (see link blew), I added the iPhone with the same layout menu as you would find in the appstore version, and added links so you can use it to read more about the app.

You can easily create these small pages to fill the mobile screen and navigate as a mobile app would. It’s probably worth getting hold of some sort of ‘smart phone’ and playing with a few apps so you know what users will expect. Who knows, you may even like it
