[Pro] ugly non-latin letters - PHP feedback form w. Form Element CSS

Our contact.php page has a PHP feedback form action with Form Element CSS.
The FRW page itself is still in HTML 4.01 and has UTF-8.

when using this form with non-latin letters, such as å and ä,

the email sent back include: är så

Only emails from this form /page are processed in this way.

How can this be repaired, any suggestions?

What version of the action are you using

And did you realise that you do NOT HAVE to name your page kont.php it can be kont.html which means you will be able to preview it locally.

Hi Dave,

The was applied to the table.

Now after updating PHP feedback form I get the ff error message:

”This action cannot be applied to inflow items. Apply the action to a non-inflow parent or page item.”

Even when applying the form 1 higher in the hierarchy = same error.

/ Now even more lost, sorry.

Omar
(also changed to html, but it is called a PHP feedback form)

This action cannot be applied to inflow items. Apply the action to a non-inflow parent or page item.”

All that means that you have to remove the action from the Div you have applied it to and instead apply it as a page Action ie Page>PageActions>PHP Feedback Form (cant see the layout of your page just now)

It sounds like you were using an older version of the action that didn’t support UTF8.

So do that, re-upload and let us see it

Hi David,

There must be a bug somewhere.

Now with FRW 7 and the PHP Feedback Form vs. 2.4.7 applied to the page itself fails and also instead of opening the Success page it open our Search Results page (without any search results).

So this means that after complaining about “ugly non-latin letters” being sent by the form (see above), now it fails completely.

Can we tell Walter Davis?!

You have*, but I doubt this is directly related to the Action. If your server is not properly configured to use UTF-8 by default, then you will need to make that adjustment on your hosting provider’s control panel. It will be in the Apache (or Web Server) section of the settings. As far as the form going to your search action, this is the first I’ve heard about search being on your contact form page. Take it off, especially if it is the Softpress Action. That Action will hijack whatever your page has set for form submissions, and so the Feedback Form Action won’t stand a chance.

Walter

*I wrote an Action years ago called the PHP Form Action, which is unrelated to Tim Plumb’s PHP Feedback Form Action. Tim’s Action sends the form contents by mail, mine does not — it just wires the form to re-display its user-entered values when you submit the form to itself.

This Action I wrote last year will allow these two Actions to coexist.

I had no idea that you had Simple Site Search on your contact page or I would have suggested its removal - probably didn’t realise because it was in Swedish!

A contact page is certainly one where you are unlikely to require search functionality but if you want it then there are ways to make them co-exist.

So if you remove SSS, upload again and post a link we can see how it goes.

hi,

It is now alright to send from the PHP feedback form – after taking off the Simple Site Search from the search results PAGE – and also the search button.

But when I reinstated the SSS action on an DIV item on the search results PAGE, I get an error: Cannot use this action.

Before applying the Simple Site Search Helper to every normal page, I need to declare that I DON’T NEED the Simple Site Search on pages, which have another form.

But I’m at loss how to proceed.

Before applying the Simple Site Search Helper to every normal page,

You will only need the Simple Site Search Helper action on a page that also has the PHP Feedback Form action (or another form)

So only on your contact page if you want to continue to use the Search feature on that page.

Hi
Simple Site Search Helper has 2 parts:

Simple Site Search Helper (page-action) - v. 0.1
Simple Site Search Submit (item-action) - v. 0.1

I cannot see how to apply the 2nd part, the item-action, unto the item of the Search Results page, where I think it should be?!

Otherwise I set the SSSH and I deleted* the search field & button on all pages which have the SSS and the PHP feedback action.

Still the error:
“Action cannot be used, & incorrectly applied…” on all pages of the site.

So how sh. I do now, any suggestions?

If you have added a “Search” button (any type of submit button next to your search field) then apply the Simple Site Search Submit Action to that button.

So it is applied to your Send/Submit button but you should only need the helper action on a page that has BOTH the Simple Site Search AND the PHPFF actions.

Hi Dave, I’ve done the above, and restarted the app, but still:

Publish Problems

ACTION CANNOT BE USED. The following Actions have been incorrectly applied and will be ignored.

Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "SKIKF".
Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "info".
Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "om-skikf".
Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "datum".
Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "kalender".
Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "sh1".
Action: "Simple Site Search", Page: "shi1".

Is there a way in FRW to see which pages do use a specific action?

Something is missing or wrong, but what…

For now I’ll take the other route:

I’ll delete all instance of the:

  • PHP Feedback Form Action
  • Simple Site Search Helper Action,

Then I’ll set the:

  • PHP Form Action

/until later…

Then I’ll set the: - PHP Form Action

No - it is the PHP Feedback Form Action you want.

Hi and good day Dave,

Success!

Only used the PHP Feedback Form Action (to the whole page),
and without a search form on the same page !

Even the non-latin letters are rendered ok now, thank you.

Success!

Always nice to hear when things work out. A contact page is certainly one where a Search function is not really necessary.
