[Pro] Upload Issues

Hi all,

Brand new user to Freeway - this is my second day. Things are coming along well but I have an issue when using the Upload command. Works fine the first time but when trying to do subsequent updates I get an error along the lines of can’t create a directory because it already exists. Screenshot here - http://www.torchbeta.com/upload.png

Is this normal or am I missing something simple - either with freeway or the directory permissions.

When you say the first upload worked, did you get any errors at the end of that first upload, or did Freeway complete successfully? When you visit your Web site, do you see the site as you expect (i.e. based on that first upload)?

As a troubleshooting step, you may want to download and install an FTP/SFTP application like Transmit ($34, 30-day free demo from http://panic.com) or CyberDuck (free from http://cyberduck.ch) and log in to your server using the same credentials that you entered into Freeway. Have a look around and see what you see. Screenshots of the directory layout made in either of those tools would help in diagnosing this, too.

Yes, the initial upload completes without issue and the pages display normally.

As a troubleshooting step, you may want to download and install an FTP/SFTP application like Transmit ($34, 30-day free demo from http://panic.com) or CyberDuck (free from http://cyberduck.ch) and log in to your server using the same credentials that you entered into Freeway.

All appears normal with Transmit. If I simply drag files to upload them it will tell me files exist and ask if I want to overwrite them. I think the error is coming from Freeway trying to rewrite the CSS or Resources directories. I’m coming from Rapidweaver where you just hit a Publish button and everything incrementally uploads - it never returns a ‘file/folder exists’ type error, it just overwrites the old files and folders.

Have a look around and see what you see. Screenshots of the directory layout made in either of those tools would help in diagnosing this, too.

This is precisely how Freeway works as well. Triple-check to be sure that the Resources folder isn’t named resources on your server. Case-sensitive server meets case-insensitive-but-case-preserving Mac. That’s a far stretch to imagine, but I have seen it happen once or twice in the past 15 years.
