We have a school website which is created and maintained with Freeway Pro - Today I realised that when clicking various links (To external sites) - a dodgy “Download Acrobat” pop up appears in a new web window - Basically it is a virus.
This happens on all computers , Mac & PC on and off site which leads me to believe I have an infection within my Freeway files on the FTP server ?
I have checked the FTP folder and cannot see any dodgy looking files (I use transmit)
Does anyone have experience with Viruses embedded in Website ?
Could it be the hosting company ?
The Mac we use to design the site is being scanned as I speak with Bitdefender.
The site is currently being built as part of student training hence some of the menus not working and overall design,
The links are on the footer - as part of the main page master - so basically the links will be on each page, however I only tried it on the main welcome page (index) before i disabled the hyperlinks.
I have just purchased Bitdefender which has been scanning the mac for 2 hours now, half way through and has so far found 50 vulnerabilities… No idea what kind of bugs they are until it finishes scanning…
I hope this is something to do with the ISP side as I feel gutted that a fairly popular school website has been creating virus popups to students & parents and it has come from within the school.
Thanks for the reply cheers

Very unlikely.
The chances of a virus on your Mac being so specific to target links within your FW doc or html pages is very very slim.
I wouldn’t be surprised if your ISP came back to tell you that you weren’t the only site to suffer - and then again they probably wouldn’t tell you anyway! Last thing they want is their security being questioned.

RM Hosting - A hosting service provided to schools - helpdesk closed!
The virus scan has completed and all vulnerabilities were email based , which makes me feel better.
One thing I added a few day’s ago was an embedded code into the footer which displayed a hit counter - www.freecounterstat.com
by clicking the Hit counter/ numbers it would link back to their website with additional stats on your website…
I have also taken this off for the time being.
Thanks

Steve, what made you decide to go with BitDefender?

FWIW, I recently went to BitDefender and am very happy with it. Unlike some antivirus apps, it doesn’t seem to slow down my Mac. And it’s very intuitive and user friendly.

Today after clicking ok for Flash one time I got the ole “your computer has a virus.” This was on Safari. I deleted all history, cache, cookies and to be safe passwords too. Force quit Safari, and restarted the computer. It went away.
I don’t think it is freeway at all. The dratted Flash
