[Pro] Using Tumult Hype

Hi All,

I’m considering buying Tumult Hype and I’ve seen on their forum that Hype can be used with FW Pro 5.5. There is a mention in the article that our Paul Dunning has created a Hype + Freeway action I can find it by doing a search in the knowledgebase or Action Dev. Can anyone kindly point me at it?

Best Regards

I’ve been trying to create animated Hype header/menu for a Freeway site (integrating the new Exhibeo galleries), but I’m stumped on how to create clickable links in Hype that will affect the Freeway site. Anyone have a clue how to go about this?

As a workaround, I tried just mapping a link in Freeway above the imported Hype animation, but the link seems to become inactive when the Hype graphics cover it up, at least when I test this on my computer’s browsers (strangely, the link works when I test on my iPad). Anyone have any tips? I’d prefer to create the links in Hype, but I’ll take any solution that works consistently.

Here’s my experiment, so far:

I’ve attempted a link over “Galleries” to open a new page in the lower frame (so an Exhibeo gallery icon pops up)

Are you trying to link to a new page? adding the link in hype should work…

Check out one of my sites. Wait for the animation to finish and then click on the link at the end. It takes you to another page.

Or am I missing something in your op…?

Glad to see it’s doable! Looks neat, both your site and your advertising model with students!

Did you just link “Register Your Car Now” as an external link? Or if you used another method, could you tell me what you did?

The complexity of the approach I have is I was trying divide the page into frames, and have the link only push a new page to the lower frame. I am doing this because, unlike your page, I want the menu links you press to remain (it was the first way though to keep the look of the top, not force it to reload when subsequent pages are opened. I suppose a way around this would be to create a second version of my top hype document, and have it’s state be the same as the end state of my previous hype graphic. Now I’m excited to give this a try, rather than doing it with frames.

Thanks for showing me your site. If you, or anyone, happens to know an easy way to make Hype documents link to opening new pages in other frames, that is also info I’d love to learn.

Ah I see!!

For that link, I just added the URL to the “On Mouse Click” action in the Inspector in HYPE.

I have never used frames before so took me a couple of minutes to figure this out. Why did you choose frames in the first place? I’d personally move away from them, from what I’ve seen in the last couple of minutes, anyway!

Basically to do this, you need to add a target attribute to the links. If the main content is called main and you want to link to the gallery.html page. The link would be: href=“gallery.html” target=“main”

I mocked up a quick demo as you’ll figure it out when you see it!

Please don’t use Frames - the are very SEO unfriendly and mean that nobody can bookmark your pages.

Thanks for the advice, David! I had a feeling frames seemed like an oddball way to do it, glad to put on the brakes before I went to far with it.
