[Pro] Version 5.5.4 caused error

I hope this has not been discussed before but I could not find it.

I upgraded from 5.5.2 to 5.5.4 this morning and then made some minor changes to my website. Link: http://www.pitcairnstudygroup.co.uk/

When I tried to publish the site I got the following error message which says: “Could not complete your request because of a problem with the file you are trying to import, it is probably invalid. (-26201:528:149)”

Fortunately I did not overwrite or delete version 5.5.2, so after much puzzling, trying to delete my new files etc, I went back to using version 5.5.2 with the new updates to the site and everything is fine.

Can anyone explain what is wrong? And what does that unhelpful error message mean?

I will not be using version 5.5.4 for a while yet.

I too am experiencing problems with Freeway Pro 5.5.4 however with timeout errors. I have updated and resampled all the graphics and rebuilt the site but still it fails to upload giving me a timeout error message. This seems to happen when it is trying to upload larger copies of photos coming in around the 350k mark.

In the end I’ve had to upload everything manually using Fetch. I’ve tried the automatic, passive and non-passive methods and all result in the same error message.

All the best

Hi,

Would you both mind getting in contact with support to see if they can help you with your problems? They seem a little odd as nothing was changed in 5.5.4 in either of these areas, so I’d like to try and resolve what has caused these issues…

David, it would help if you sent us your document. If it’s bigger than 10MB, you would need to use a file transfer service such as https://wetransfer.com/

Thanks

I am now happily using version 5.5.4. It seems as if the problem may have been with my computer and not the program update.

I must thank Stewart at Softpress for his help, and also for suggesting the excellent file transfer service “wetransfer” which I will be using for work now as well.

Exactly the same problem here. I upgraded to 5.5.4 last night and now I’m getting the same problem (identical error message). Any answer on this - I’m in a real fix.

I don’t know whether it is related, but since FW 5.5.4 I have trouble uploading to Fasthosts, with a time out message usually on a .png file that seems to hang - but not necessarily the same one each time nor at the same stage of upload. No problem with my other hosts.

To clarify, are you getting the upload timeout error message or the “problem with the file you’re trying to import” error message?

If you send us your document, we can have a look at it and see if we can diagnose the problem. For files larger than 10MB, please use https://wetransfer.com

Thanks

I thought I would trying sending the file via wetransfer but couldn’t find Softpress e-mail address anywhere on the site!

Update - good news me hopes!

Restarted mac - fired up the job again and so far so good.

Error message gone and I’m cooking with gas again.

I’m working on this project today and I’ll report back if the error creeps back.

I should have done this before posting my original message but even an old hand like me panics a bit sometimes. However if anyone encounters the same issue this easy exercise might result in a quick and simple fix.

“Cannot complete upload because an operation timed out” [-26372:625:1191] at the last attempt. Before I send any file to you, I’ll take the matter up with Fasthosts, in case there may be problems at that end. I’ve had other issues recently.

Steward, if you make the at sign using a single lower-case A in a pair
of parentheses, you will automagically get an at sign on the Web view
of these lists.

In case it is of help, the Fasthosts upload problem mentioned earlier in this thread was solved by changing the Output Tab setting for Resources to ‘With HTML files’ in File>Document Setup. Just don’t ask me why!

This issue has been plaguing me with Freeway Document from version 5 right up until version 7.1.1

Having to quit and reopen 5 or 6 times for every publish. For the first time EVER, I was able to publish my site in one go. Edit Resources, sort images by file type and tick ‘detach’ on all the EPS and PSD files. Just did published in one go. Could this be it? Fingers crossed.

Personally I try and avoid file types that are not Web Friendly - which EPS and PSD are not.

FW does its best to convert them but if you are not careful about what format it chooses to convert them too you can see image degradation.

So I would suggest that if you stick to Web Ready formats, and for the most part pass-through images, you will have far fewer problems.

Besides if you detach all those images then FW will save a copy of the file in the FW document and it will grow massively in size.

Just to add to that: EPS can be particularly troublesome. If it’s possible to convert them to SVG then I’d recommend doing that.

Cheers,
Joe

I’ve a pretty nice short story (if it is of interest):

There was once a pretty unexperienced designer (the reality was even harder). He worked on his first project ever. The file was nice and clean and everything worked as expected. So the designer came up with the idea to add a dotted line beyond an item. To achieve this, he hacked zillion of single points via keyboard in - dot by dot.

Well - what to say?

After this, the file was nearby not to use anymore. It slowed down and it suddenly took ages to upload. Being sorely in need, he called the towers. There was a pretty clever guy that immediately cleaned the mess, telling the designer how to really do “dotted lines”.

Oh - perhaps the names are of interest?

Well - the (dumb) designer was me, the clever guy was Joe Billings - the FW version was 4.5 (I think) and it was round-about 2007/8.

So what did we learn? 99% of bugs are sometimes in front of the screen and when when worse comes to worse, the towers are always there.

Cheers
