[Pro] Vistor's comments

Hi and thanks for your time
I just recently upgraded to Pro. I am still using my Express 5.5 Site in order to learn Pro and get everything to work well, but obviously I want to switch soon.
I wanted to add some visitors comments, but when I clicked the relative page layout action my visitors actions gives the message that they can’t use my action.
It says (in my language) something to the effect that I have table based elements on my page and that I need to either make layers, remove these elements altogether or use the remove from lay out action.
What would be the best way to overcome this problem?
Kind regards
Dust

If you need these elements to remain as table elements, because they need to grow to fit the comments and force the footer down, then you may want to try this page without the RPL Action, or apply the Remove from RPL Action to the table-based elements. I am not sure what the benefit of RPL will be on this page – the table-based elements would naturally do what RPL does with a DIV (layer) based layout.

Thanks. I think I understand.
The table based elements on this page are the logo and header of the page since they were originally built in Express. Do I understand correctly that I can exclude them from the RPL action?
Your suggestion of leaving the RPL action out altogether makes sense as well. I could leave extra space for comments on this occasion. However for future use it would probably be best to do it the right way.
I suppose I could also rebuilt new pages on my Site with a new master page, that is similar to the old master page, only done in Pro this time, with layers and so forth, as I am not planning to add lots of actions on older pages. Is that correct?
Thanks

If these elements are in the header area of the page, it’s unlikely that other content would need to push them down the page, so I would just go ahead and re-build them as layer elements. You can get started with this by simply selecting each one in turn, and clicking the Layer checkbox in the Item Inspector. The RPL Action is needed mostly for pages where you have content which may be of variable length (comments are a great example of this, since you don’t make them directly in Freeway) and a footer or other content below that variable area that would need to respond to the size of the content above it. Be sure to read the manual when it comes to RPL – it’s amazing, but it requires some careful use and tuning to get the best results.

Yes, the manual. That’s right. Thanks. I need to restudy the manual carefully. I am very confident with Express after 2 years, but I think it would be wise to invest some serious time again in getting acquainted with Pro in order to truly benefit from the upgrade.
Thanks again.
