Not very much any more, and you stand a slightly lower chance of people seeing the same color on their screens as you do on yours. Long ago, when Uncle Walt was still darker-haired, people used Netscape 2 on their 386 PCs with 8-bit “color” VGA monitors that could show 256 awful colors at the same time. This was the problem that “web-safe” palettes were meant to fix. That problem has long ago been solved by 24-bit color everywhere.
