[Pro] Webmaster tools errors

Hi chaps, I am looking into Googles webmaster tools and there are 3 errors on my site … one is:

The requested URL /content/stormy_beach_large.html was not found on this server.

This image is on the ‘Gallery’ page (created in Lightroom) (although the file name is different) “stormy_beach.tif” … looking at the page content the file is there, I’m not sure quite what Lightroom does when it uploads the files and why Google has picked on this file amongst dozens of others … I’m confused, any advice very welcome.

This image is on the ‘Gallery’ page

Not quite sure I understand your meaning as the error says there is a missing page yet you allude to an image?

A link to your site/page would help.

BTW - .tif files are not web ready/web safe files

Thanks and sorry Dave, I thought I’d added the link to the site, here it is:

http://www.christchurchview.co.uk

As far as the .tif goes I may have to look at my workflow and how ‘Lightroom’ handles the web gallery uploads …

Hope the weather up there is as good as down south … enjoy it … Roger

… oh and the reason I referred to a “page” is because:

"Googlebot couldn’t crawl this URL because it points to a non-existent page. "

Thanks Roger

The links within the Lightroom iFrame are relative ones and I think that the googlebot treats them literally.

You may be able to ‘fix’ the error by adding a base href to the lightroom gallery pages ie http://christchurchview.co.uk/weblr4/index.html

http://christchurchview.co.uk/weblr4/index_2.html etc.

Try this line in the head of each of these pages

<base href="http://christchurchview.co.uk/weblr4/"/>

Thanks for that Dave, this is all too deep for my tiny brain, I will put that line in the ‘head’ but I’m afraid i don’t understand why or what it means.

I guess I chose F’way in order that I didn’t need to learn too much of the ‘dark arts’ side of website building, I really don’t have the inclination for the few simple sites that I create (hence my extreme appreciation for the splendid and valuable advice you and your bright pals offer so freely on this forum) … as an aside two further questions please … should I have avoided using Lightroom, any ideas how to add ‘alt’ text to the images within the LR gallery please ?

Not really down to FW this one.

should I have avoided using Lightroom

No - I dont think so. There are plenty of external Gallery creators and there is nothing wrong with LR.

how to add ‘alt’ text to the images within the LR gallery please ?

I am sure that you can do that within LR but as I dont have it I cant be specific.

You could edit the LR generated html if you felt the need.
