[Pro] WebYep

Hi. I’ve set up a simple test page on which I applied WebYep actions to a few items, however all the original items that have WebYep actions applied to them do not show up when published to the web, only the webyep icons. I can click on them, write text, upload an image, etc., but the original elements aren’t there. Non-WebYeb items show up fine. The pdf link on the web page shows the Freeway doc vs. web page. Can’t figure it out, can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi
All webyep items are populated via a browser otherwise the potential would be that if you republished after you or your client added some text or an image the uploaded files would wipe out the browser added content.
What you have to remember is the minute you apply a webyep item to something freeway hands over responsibility to populating that Item to webyep and that is always done via a browser

Kind regards Max

Thanks Max, but it was like this when I first uploaded/published the page. The pdf reference is comprised of screen shots of the Freeway document and the web page to show the comparison of what should be there. None of the WebYep items showed up at all… essentially a blank page, with exception of non-webyep items. I recreated the test page from scratch, deleted the WebYep folder and uploaded a new one, and still the same. Did I miss a step? Why is the original, non-edited, content not showing on the web page, only the WebYep icons? Many thanks for your assistance.

Miktig,

Could it possibly be because you’ve added the content to the Webyep items in Freeway rather than through the web browser?
Just a thought, as Webyep doesn’t ‘register’ it’s content until uploaded to the server space…

Hi Max,

It was my understanding that WebYep could be applied to an existing site design. Does this mean all the “cms” intended content would have to be recreated online? If this is true, it doubles the work and leaves room of a lot of error, accidental omissions of content, etc.

Thank you again for your guidance.

Trevreav… oooops, sorry, I thought the last comment I replies to was from Max.

No worries:-)

I’m by no means a WebYep guru, I’ve only dabbled in it, but everything has to be done online to be available to the general public.

I redid a website a while ago to incorporate the CMS and I found the easiest way for me was to save the pages as archives from Safari and these then became my reference pages for adding into the new WebYep system (so I could then see what the finished page would look like at each WebYep edit/addition and compare the 2). It was just a long methodical job to make sure that I had incorporated everything Webyep into the existing site which I had previously created in Freeway.

It doesn’t really double the work as you only add the WebYep ‘holding’ boxes (short text, long text, pictures etc.) in Freeway and leave them blank - making sure that you’ve named them properly, and then populate it once it’s uploaded. Yes there’s room for error and omissions, but if you follow a methodical workflow, one page at a time, then it’s not too bad.

It sounds more involved than it actually was. Quite honestly, if I could do it, I’m pretty sure you’d be able to manage it.

Hi Trev and Max,

Max, you helped me a while back when I was experimenting with a more complex web page (part of a full and completed site). You explained that all I needed to do was to convert the panels to rich text items (easy part), create and link special style sheets and so-on (the “how to” part of this is what I got hung up on). However, you didn’t say that I needed to recreate/populate the existing content via the browser, so this is where my confusion stems from.

Thank you both for your input,
Miktig
