[Pro] What I see is NOT what I get...

Hi Freeway folks,

I have a transparency/opacity problem I can’t figure out so far, even after trying almost every single setups.
I created a simple graphic box on my layout, used “Fill Master” action to give it a color and a transparency of 75%, the transparency is then visible in Freeway, yet when I publish the site and preview it in Safari the color appears plain with no transparency at all. (I also tried with a picture imported into the graphic box and same thing happens, no transparency…)
What am I doing wrong?
Your help is very much appreciated!
Thanks.

Remember that only .gif and .png can have transparencies. As long, as your graphic element is a .jpeg it won’t work.

Choose your item and check inspector settings. Choose png millions (my favourite) and you should be done.

Shot in the dark?

Cheers

You probably don’t need Fill Master either.

1 - Draw a graphic box

2 - Apply a fill

3 - In the Inspector Palette, click on the Paint brush tab

4 - Slide the Opacity slider to the setting you want.

5 - Click on the Export tab in the Inspector Palette

6 - Choose PNG and select Millions of Colours

That’s it.

Thank you Thomas! I appreciate.

I saw on another/older conversation that it is mainly due to a problem of layer… and effectively, once I deactivated the layer option on that Graphic item it did show as a transparent in Safari.

What I want to do is to create a CSS pan that has a slight transparent background. But can I create that while having the pan as a non-layered item?
Do you have any experience with that?

Cheers

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the tips.

I’m about to do what you suggested and see if I get what I want.
As I replied to Thomas (above), what I want to do is to create a CSS pan that has a slight transparent background. But can I create that while having the pan as a non-layered item? Do you have any experience with that?

I want the pan to appear (cascade) once the button is moused over (as usual) and that pan should have a transparent background with regular hyperlinks text.
I believe this should not be a big deal to create but some how, while appearing ok in Freeway, it just doesn’t work when previewed in Safari. It is previewed fixed (pan is visible with no action) and the background is opaque…

Your Freeway wisdom is more than welcome!

Thank you
D

my problem actually is, that I can’t imagine what you’re after (this is by the way an often problem for me, that I can’t follow a description but as long as I can see something - things clearing up).

So do you have probably any link (or example) to provide where I (we) can see what you’re trying to achieve?

Cheers

Thomas

If it is not layered then it is NOT CSS positioned. What about using a transparent png as a background image to your HTML box.

Hi Thomas and DeltaDave,

I start (finally) to understand how the whole concept works… Although I bought Freeway 5 pro in early 2008, I never really fully used it, and I’m not a skilled graphic designer, even though I’m a concept/product designer…

My first mistake was to consider that what ever I create and see in Freeway platform should also be what I should get once published… I had a tough time wrapping my mind around that, and it can be very frustrating…

Anyway, David, I made a transparent png in freeway, saved it and re-imported it into my HTML box and it seems to work fine now or at least for that part of the construction.
So, thank you very much for your support. I greatly appreciate it.

Just a quick note on the importance of educating clients on your product…
I strongly recommend to Softpress’ executives (Joe Billings…) to seriously invest in making free, state of the art, educational videos that are evolving around the making of a A to Z professional project, the same way that ArchiCad (by GraphiSoft) does. In the Software business the most powerful marketing tool one company can get is to have the clients use their products well and as fast as possible, (That’s also Apple’s philosophy!).
I say that because I bought Freeway Pro in 2008 based on the assumption that there will be more videos… The videos, made then by Paul Dunning, sold me the thing… unfortunately, it didn’t go any further…

Thanks

Not my product!

I have no official association with Softpress - I am just an enthusiastic user.

This is a classic assumption as by its nature the Web is a fluid entity and there are so many different operating systems, browsers and unique set ups (including what fonts are available to any particular visitor) that how you see a page can be far removed from what your next door neighbour sees.

Designing for the web is a compromise - always will be - especially while Bill Gates and Microsoft make c****y browser software.
