I’ve finally decided to replacing my aging Brother MFC-9840CDW with a color printer that’s a bit more practical. I use this printer for scanning, faxing, copying, and of course printing. However, whenever I need to put together a printed proof for a client, especially anything larger than 8.5 x 11, I find myself running to FedEx Office.
At first, I was thinking I needed another color laser printer. But it looks like the inkjet companies have made some real advancements in their inkjet technologies, which makes me believe the inkjet genre of printers are a strong possibility.
Having said all that I could really use some help. I need a recommendation on a Wide Format Printer with the following features:
Able to print at least 11" x 17" with a bleed
Able to scan, fax, and copy
Reliable
Fairly cost effective in terms of consumables
Mac OS X Mountain Lion Compatible
Must have accurate color reproduction
Must be able to hold registration, particularly front to back
Duplexing would be a plus
Does anyone have a printer with these features or one they can recommend?
For what it’s worth, I did find several printers online, but I’m more interested in hearing from forum members who are using a wide format printer they really like.
I don’t own one but I have a friend who owns a commercial-grade wide format machine. I’ve seen the quality of prints and it’s spectacular. It’s a special-use printer (and expensive) and obviously not an all-in-one, but if you’re interested I can ask her about the brand and post back.
How wide? I have an Epson R1800 that does 13" roll feed, although I’ve only used it that way once. Mostly use it for sheet-fed photo printing, which is really quite nice. (This coming from a classically-trained analog photographer.)
