[Pro] Yahoo Media Player (FW 6.1)

Hi,

Anyone using Yahoo Media Player anymore? I went from 5.5 to 6.1 and I had great results in 5.5 and so many visitors used it. BUt now not so good!

Now they cannot get to any other songs choices, it just plays the one in an outdated looking player. It plays but cannot get to the 24 others songs.

You can see what I mean if you hit up my site and hit DJ booth icon in the upper right.

Thanks…

Barry

Hi Barry,
The Yahoo Media Player/ Web Player has now been retired and you should consider looking for another audio player for your web site. Although Yahoo pulled the hosted files from their site I’ve reworked the Action (currently version 1.1) to use self-hosted files. Remove the old Action from your site and apply the new version (the internal structure of the Action changed meaning that you can’t just update the Action file) which should buy you some time and at least get your songs back online.

You can download the updated version of the Action here;

Regards,
Tim.

Tim, I’m pleased to see your answer to the Yahoo Media Player issue but can you tell me what you mean when you say that your reworking of the action will “buy you some time” ?

Does it mean that some elements of the player are still hosted by Yahoo and that the player may stop working altogether if they remove it?

Hi Chris,
In the last update to the Action I moved the bulk of the scripts that the player uses within the Action bundle itself to make it as portable as possible. These, however, further rely on resources available online which are currently available but may not be forever. If I had the time I could dig through all of the code and try and patch the scripts so that it referenced assets completely within the Action which would make it totally self sufficient.
Regards,
Tim.

Just wondering if there is any thought on this audio player for the future of Freeway? I really liked it, but if it’s going to die I need to look forward to some other alternative.

Suggestions welcome for alternatives for nice looking, self hosted, independent stand alone playlist/players that are easy to set up in Freeway.

Emphasis on nice looking - so many of the free players are hideous and/or cheesy looking…

Karen,

Mine is working great and I do not think much will change with this anytime soon.

Thanks Barry, yes I know it’s currently working with the new revision, however Tim (or others) may or may not move forward with making it completely independent - and Yahoo (or whoever is hosting) may unplug the online components at any time.

Much may not change anytime soon - but has the potential of becoming broken next week. Who knows? Thus the question…

If someone wants to take the lead on this, all of the remote resources may be moved to my CDN at any time. Just sign up, send me an e-mail (off-list) to let me know you’ve done so, and I will give you the access level to upload files. http://cdnadmin.freewaypro.com

Is it just me - or is Yahoo Media Player now totally dead?

I’m not seeing the resources for it on FreewayPro CDN, and every instance I’ve tried isn’t working.

That said - there’s a new crop of HTML5 mp3 players but there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of contemporary discussion on the list about audio players.

One can always go the quicktime route - but I’m not sure how that’s working across all devices…

Thanks for the response and the working example Hoffkids - I figured out why it wasn’t working in my browser and got it running again - good to see its still alive!

Matt - I think this one is nicer looking than the one you posted - so it’s subjective I guess. Code Base Hero: Your Beginner Guide to Blockchain Programming
