Finally I got around to buying Xway…and with high hopes.
However, problems from the start. When opening a .Freeway (7.1.3) file I got the error msg “some data could not be read” and then nothing happened.
When searching my Seeworthybirds file using Resources in Freeway, I didn’t notice anything weird i.e., mp3, mp4, m4a, png, gif, jpg or pdf files. I assume these are ok.
I use standard web safe fonts but I found an OliveOil font got in…perhaps this is a problem?
Also my Freeway file contains several Showcase gallery/slide shows and a few imported Exhibeo galleries. Might they be a problem?
Finally, Resources shows that all of the images in one of my Exhibeo files are missing…although strangely this show seems to run fine. Do the missing images status present a problem for Xway?
I might also mention than an old, out of date Seeworthybirds (FW5.5) opened with Xway…(although I barely recognize the pages). I don’t suppose I could just sort of “cut and paste” pages from FW7.1.3 into my Xway file imported from FW5.5?
Can you put a copy of your Freeway 7.1.3 file on a file-sharing service (e.g. Dropbox) and send me a link (via support at softpress dot com)? I can investigate why it isn’t being imported successfully.
Xway doesn’t support Showcase galleries, but they shouldn’t prevent the document from being read.
I’ve downloaded it, and I’ll investigate why it isn’t opening in Xway.
I actually meant for you to send me the link via email to “support at softpress dot com”, but you can delete the file from Dropbox and I’ll edit your message so the link is no longer displayed.
The problem was a box that contained “external HTML content” (see page 214 of the Freeway Reference manual). This is a form of HTML-markup-file content, which wasn’t used in any of the Freeway documents we used to test Freeway import in Xway — one of Freeway’s more obscure features. (The Xway equivalent is to insert a markup item and choose a file from the File popup in the Markup dialog.)
This will be fixed in Xway 1.0.4, which we’ll release soon (we need to jump through an Apple developer hoop before we can build it). We’ll announce it here on Softpress Talk.
When it’s released, you will be able to update from within Xway by choosing Check for Updates from the Xway menu.
