For me it would be useful to see how some of you promote this on your own website, as presumably we are mostly business to business. Might be better if we were all consistent do you think?
I’m hoping to make a clever small-space ad that leverages the same JavaScript that currently draws the thermometer bar on the pre-pledge page. Have a look at http://ActionsForge.com/next to see what I mean. I have to refactor it to work without Prototype, which will take a little doing.
and I agree it could be probably a bit more. But honestly I’m a small light within the universe. I thought about an email to all people that contacted me directly but I recognized that the most of them anyway signed in the first one and furthermore I’m yet not sure if it’s really a good idea.
But the “indicator” is a smart idea looking forward to.
Walter - don’t forget about Twitter or/and Facebook on:
I just think it is important for those of that promote this that it has a completely consistent identical feel to it using the same branding / logo whatever … no good if they all look different!
I THINK what we really need is at least 300 pledgers… if everyone focuses
on that, I’ll rest better. Besides, a little creative diversity may be a
good way to promote this.
Just remember that logos and trademarks belong to people with lawyers, so
be *legally *creative.

Terrific Walt. I am trying to imagine what visitors to my site (for example) would make of the entirely specific reference to Freeway and ActionForge. From their perspective, they come to my / our websites to check out if we’re any good or not as web designers to boost their web presence etc… They most probably won’t be familiar with Freeway or ActionForge so do you not think the approach should be more oblique in some way so as to promote an ‘ideal’ that streamlines the building of websites…etc for everybody.
Why would they choose to invest in something that relates specifically to web developers when their business is something completely different. I don’t see how they would see a connection.
I am extremely content to fill my Home page / site with anything to push this promotion to the max, but my site is most likely visited by people who know nothing about it.
Maybe these first ads are more what you might see on an Actions-centric site, like Paul’s or Tim’s or Max’s. Can you propose some language for an ad that’s pointed at clients? I’d be happy to build one. The tough part is done, getting the thermometer bar to work correctly.
We are all familiar with Freeway Pro and the community and even this
project. What your suggesting is a good design exercise – how do you
promote this project among those who aren’t familiar with Freeway, the
community, or the project?
So, traffickers to your website come to check out your skills, and see your
support for the web-design community… your support for the tools of
the web-design community.
Sounds like an educational moment to me.

Well…I think this is a tricky one if it’s to have any kind of positive effect. How DO you sell something like this to visitors who have come to your site for a different reason?
The bottom line has to be whether they have the vision to believe their donation / support will help developers produce better / faster / more creative websites which in turn benefits them. We’re all pretty excited about this but that’s because we also stand to benefit from this big time. There’s plenty of savvy guys on here whom I’m sure may have a few suggestions?? Or maybe we shouldn’t get bogged down with this and just whack it on our home page and get on with it…!
