question about Freeway Express

I haven’t bought Freeway yet, but today got an email with a good deal
– only $47 for Black Friday. When I go to the site, it lists a $20
addl fee for a book. So, it seems to me that it’s talking about a
BOOK. Yet, looking further, there’s a place to DOWNLOAD the book. So,
I’m confused.

First, is this a real book that would be sent to me, or is a download
that I’d have to print over 100 pages to hold and read? And whichever
it is, is it something I should purchase? I’m not the least bit
knowledgeable about web building, so I want to do what’s going to
make this easier for me.

Also, since I want this mainly to build my own site showcasing my
graphic design, hand-drawn pencil portraits and paintings, wouldn’t
Express be fine? Seems I woudn’t need Pro. Could be later I’d want do
do sites for a few others, but it’s most likely not going to be a big
part of my life.

My site would need to be several pages. I think Express does that,
doesn’t it?

You can download the book for free from the support area of the Web
site. You don’t even have to purchase Freeway first. But if you want a
real dead-trees version of the same book, you can pay your $20.

Louise, I used Freeway Express for my art site (Figleef.com) and it’s fine. I downloaded the PDF of the manual and my print shop printed it back to back and bound it for $13. I think I ordered the book but it’s just a starter book. Nicely done but I needed the full manual. Feel free to ask questions here. Great (and smart) bunch of folks here! Lee

As Walter said, the $20 is for a physical printed copy of the book,
but you can download a PDF without cost. It depends which you prefer;
leafing through something beside your computer or on the screen. Each
has its own advantages.

The book is pretty useful; I recommend it whichever way you want to read it.

That’s a perfectly reasonable way to go. If you decide that you want
the extra flexibility and scope of Pro you can always pay the
difference later.

Yep. It’d be a pretty poor web design app that couldn’t.
Dive on in, look through the documentation, and come back here if or
when you have questions.

To clear up the book/manual confusion, the BOOK that comes with the “Box” version is a nice little book, softsided, 5" X7", wirebound book called “Using Freeway 5”. In includes a Quick Tour, three Tutorials, a bit about design, and about 30 little pages that are basically an overview.

The REFERENCE MANUAL which is a downloadable PDF is 448 pages, way more indepth. I found the BOOK helpful. I found the MANUAL invaluable and it’s easier for ME to read instructions on paper than on the computer.

Cheers, Lee

Thanks. That’s what I needed. I also find it easier to read
instructions on paper than on the computer.
