removing .html extension

I have to bite the bullet and jump ship for a redevelopment of an old Freeway website…

The website has good SEO with steady traffic.

The software I have in mind will generate urls without the .html extension.

Will this affect SEO? How to rectify that?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of software are you moving to? Are you hosting on a regular Apache web server? If so, you may be able to do some tricks with rewrites so that the URLs will resolve both with and without the .html extension. Rails (my system of choice) can respond to a URL that ends in .html without complaint, even though it will generate internal links that are “tail-less” by default.
