Renaming a subfolder

Hi all,

As some of you may remember, I have a Freeway site which links in and out of OpenCart (and now also Wordpress) - with both installations of OpenCart and Wordpress being in subfolders, with the Freeway content in the root. I just generate links in Freeway to those subfolders.

I am currently upgrading my version of OpenCart to the latest version, and I have done that by generating a completely new installation in a password protected folder called “backup” so Google can’t yet find my test set-up. This is on the same server as the current live site.

My question is, if I were to just rename the current live subfolder (named “search”) to something else so it can’t be found, and then rename the new sub-folder OpenCart installation called “backup” to “search”, so it effectively becomes the new live sub-folder - will that work?

Freeway only does any “magic” with URLs when they are internal (Freeway-generated) links. There, if you rename a folder or a page, you will get all of your links updated to match, since the internal representation of the links is an actual object-to-object link, and the name of any element in that path is just metadata, not a change to the actual thing.

If you have made links in Freeway (external links, using the External tab of the hyperlinks dialog) to your test pages, then you can update all of them at once using the Edit / Hyperlinks dialog. But if you are really not changing these external URLs, only changing what lives at that particular path on the server, then Freeway won’t need any changing at all.

Ah right. Thanks Walter. I was pretty sure Freeway wouldn’t need any further help but just wanted to check, and so I just hope that the visitors and browsers won’t know they are being pointed to a completely new sub-folder - none of the seo data has changed but it still has me twitching.

Quite chuffed with how I solved all of the MySQL column mismatches using sql queries, and I have even written a few vqmod scripts for opencart.
