resampling etc

Good Afternoon,

I got a new MBP 17 courtesy of Apple (replaced my other one for free)

I backed up all on an external La Cie HD.
I am pulling each folder and FW doc to my new computer.

THe problem I am running into is that even though the folder is there (on the desktop) it says can not find the image / jpg . png / pdf and will not publish.

I went through all the missing ones redirected each one to the resource file I pulled off the HD to the desktop.

i went to publish - they are all missing.

what do I do? any suggestions? I had to manually go through each missing item = I really don’t want to do that again to have it revert back to not being able to be located.

Thank you.

Julie

If you have used FWs own format when creating a site ie FW doc, media folder etc and site folder and actually put all the graphics etc that you have used into the media folder then you wouldn’t get this problem because all the files would be in the same relative position.

When you copy your files from one drive to another then FW’s internal links to the files are broken and have to be recreated.

So for each site that you are moving to your new MB make sure that you have all the necessary files and that you know where they are.

eg for the EnergyChex site I would create a folder on my HD called (for example) EChex and within that folder I would have my FW doc, a media files folder, a folder for text files etc that the client sent me, a site folder and probably another folder for miscellaneous files like js stuff.

So when I transfer the files from the external I would put them in the appropriate folder on my new MB.

Once the FW doc is on the MB I would open it and create a new site folder within the containing folder.

Only then would I address the issue of missing graphics etc.

Edit>Resources and go through what can and cannot be found. If you have moved all your graphics into the ‘media’ folder on the MB then when you update/find a missing graphic in that folder then FW will often ‘find’ the other missing graphics that are in the same place.

Inevitably there will be files that came from somewhere else and FW will show the path where they used to be. Copy these additional files into the ‘media’ folder and repeat the process.

If you are really stuck you could use files from the old site folder but I would then use them as ‘pass throughs’ so that FW didn’t tweak them any more. (If you cant find the originals).

The lesson to be learned from this is that it pays dividends to have a structured system of file storage and not to drag/drop, copy and paste unless you have a central repository for your files.

Ah Ok,

THank you.

I figured since all the graphics / pdfs etc were in teh resource folder in the Triz folder where the FW doc was… that just draging that whole folder it would work.

SO Make a new folder - for the orginal folder add in all the graphics etc that are used = even thought they are in the resourse folder.

I will go through all my files and recreate in the external then and straighten them all up.

Wise words Thank you.

Any files that are in the Resources folder have already been processed by FW from an Original. It is these Originals that you want to copy into your Media folder.

Do not copy files from the Resources folder into the media folder as these will not be the same quality as your originals. Also do not reference any files in your Resources folder as these are created/modified every time that you publish or preview your site!

Keep the originals in the media folder so that if you make a change on the FW page then a new file is created by FW in the Resources folder from the original in the media folder.
