Retina Images?

I’m picking up my new iPad Air later this week, so I’m curious to find out how many FWP users have changed their graphic image workflow to account for devices with retina displays.

  1. Are you routinely using SVG images?
  2. When editing photos for a website, are you now creating higher-resolution images to account for retina displays?

Thanks,
K

I’m not addressing retina images specifically… though I have retina users
who seem quite happy with the images in my work.

I imagine the pertinent question will be, once you are seeing retina
images, will it change your workflow?

I recommend you get the book Retinafy Me! from Thomas Fuchs (author of Scriptaculous and transplanted Philly boy). http://retinafy.me

For figures (images of things), I wouldn’t worry too much about it, not unless you’re Apple, and want your product images to pop pop pop! But for logos or icons (navigation, twitter, G+ etc.) this is so important it’s kinda scary. The smaller and more precise the image is, the worse it will fail when viewed at up-rezzed quality. You know what a sharp-edged graphic looks like when you scale it 200% in Photoshop, right?

Thanks guys. Ernie, as for my workflow, it seems that it keeps evolving. Not sure if that’s good or bad. I will say that as an old guy I like to keep things as simple and consistent as possible.

Wow! Forty seven bucks seems a little pricey for a book, especially a PDF, but if you think it would do me some good. Do you happen to know of a discount code Walter?

Not at the moment, but he does frequently run them (at whim, major US holiday, etc.) and they’re generally pretty generous. I was a beta reviewer, so I didn’t pay full-freight.

Try following @thomasfuchs on Twitter for more updates. He’s currently sunning himself in New Zealand, I believe he may be speaking at WebStock or something.
