Great tip.

Thx

Image boxes WON’T change to new target #. Help.

For some reason my image boxes WILL NOT let me change the target number. Every time I change one, it changes all of them. I have gone over each step meticulously but to no avail. I am using Freeway Express 5. Incredibly frustrated…any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,
I am happen to work on the same thing: A rollover gallery. But now i have a question. Maybe someone knows.
I have more 47 images, and the action required for the rollover gallery can only go upon 20 images…
How can i let it work with 47 images??
Hope someone knows.

I have found out the answer myself. For the people who also want to know, just make another slave group, and you can add 20 images again, and so on!

Could you please tell me what version of Freeway this tutorial applies to? Is it Express or Pro? If it is Pro, how do you get around the warning not to use CSS for building a gallery? I tried to apply this tutorial with FP5 but could not get the target image to change. Thanks.

I’m having the same problem, G-HAM. Can’t change the target number in the image boxes. They all change! Have you managed to solve this after your post?

I made it work! I’m using Freeway 5 Pro.

These are the differences I found between the directions posted and what I did. I hope I documented all the changes I made.

step 6: choose “target show/hide image” NOT “target show/hide layer”

Change the first two parametes to: Initially: Hidden and Restore: Yes

Then, like me, after you import the images, you might have to transform the content by scaling the images so you see what you want to be showing.

I don’t really know what this all means, but I did it by mostly by chance. Let me know if it works for you!

A little update: in step 6 you can chose either Restore: Yes OR Sticky. You’ll get slightly different results. If you chose Yes, then an image will disappear as soon as the cursor is off a thumbnail; if you choose Sticky, the image of the last thumbnail the cursor was on will continue to appear even if the cursor is no longer on any thumbnail.

And Pete, I figured out how to get the changing captions you asked about. It’s not too different than setting up the image boxes, but there are some important differences. I’ll post what I did as soon as I have a chance!

Hi Paul

In FF3 after you have viewed all the pics you cant go back and see them again.

The caption changes - but not the pics.

Hi David,
It works fine on my machine! Don’t know why you would be having this issue.

This is how I did the captions; it’s not too different than what’s been done to set up the thumbnail/image slide show.

  1. Make a text box and name it “title.” Apply “target show/hide layer” action to it. In the actions window set Initially to Hidden and Restore to Sticky. (You’ll either have to make the box long enough to fit your longest caption or you’ll have to adjust the length of the boxes when you’re done so that a longer caption doesn’t show underneath a shorter one.)

  2. Make 10 duplicates at 0 offsets and delete the original “title” box.

  3. Select “title 2” box and in the actions window change “target” to 2. Change all the rest of the boxes similarly: 3 to 3, etc.

  4. You’ll have to bring each title box to the front to type in the caption that you want. So do that…and you’re done! It doesn’t matter in what stacking order the title boxes wind up, as long as you chose the correct target number in the step above, it’ll work. If you had to make a title box longer to accommodate the text, you may have to go back and adjust the length of other title boxes so that the longer title doesn’t “leak out” underneath a shorter one. If you just make a long title box in the first place, you won’t have this issue.

I hope I described everything clearly!

If you have your page/site view set to page view then you will get a list of all your title boxes down the LHS of ther page.

Select the item that you want to type into and then hit the enter key - this will get you into typing mode in the box you selected.

Avoids all that bringing to front malarkey.

Hi Delta Dave,
Thanks for that tip! I figured there must be an easier way! Although I was using the side panel, I didn’t know if I selected a text box and then used the enter (return) key, I could type directly into the text box. I was bringing each text box to the front and then entering the text by clicking into the box.
Much easier your way!

I posted this question earlier on a related thread thinking I was on this particular thread. I hope you don’t mind the double post. →

I tried the tutorial and the tips on this thread (thank you all) and after a while (a long while) I was able to build a rollover image gallery similar to the ones suggested on this thread and the tutorial. NOW, here is my problem and subsequent question: I want to make the first image to be visible when the page is accessed, BUT I want that first image to go away once the next image is clicked on (I’m using the click-on button as opposed to the mouse-over button). I have several pictures of varying sizes, if the first picture stays visible and the next click-on picture is smaller, then part of the visible picture shows through in the background, as the smaller picture is not big enough to cover it. How do I get the first picture to be visible when the page is accessed, and yet when the next image is clicked on, that first visible picture it is moved away or hidden? Any suggestions?

Hi Will, I think that we are on same boat… I have been trying to work that one with many different options that I don’t know what else to try.

Hopefully someone here can become the hero of the day.

I wonder if you’re using “target show/hide LAYER” instead of “target show/hide IMAGE” as the action for the image boxes? Use “target show/hide IMAGE”. (Simon, the original poster, seems not to be participating in this discussion anymore and his tutorial seems to be written for an older version of Freeway. His step six says to use Slave Show/Hide LAYER as the Action for the image…but that doesn’t work.)

Are you also using in the actions palette Initially: Hidden; Restore: Sticky: and have the correct number for each target?

It works fine on my site and as you can see, the images are all different sizes.

(some images repeat because they’re just place-holders right now)

Uhmmm… Interesting they sound the same thing (I had to read it 3 times!). I’ll check that later when I have some time.

However, last night it occurred to me duplicating the first image and in the Actions palette; on the Initially drop down list apply Visible so the image would be visible when the page is accessed, however, if I remember correctly on my previous trials, the image will disappeared once you click on a different thumbnail; so, you would need a duplicate and apply Hidden on the Initially drop down list in the Actions palette.

I don’t if that would work as I haven’t tried it out, but to my mind it appears that it is going to work.
