I ended up doing what I needed to do server side with some php, this is the result. I was really going the wrong direction trying to use rollovers/layers… This works out better because I need to capture the variables for a cart anyway.

Site re-launched this morning with some refinements. Thanks for the input. I am going to replace the design page with .jpgs next. The wheel builder bumped my time on site and pages per visit averages by 400%. Should have done that a long time ago…
Basically:
There is a folder on my server for each color option. I have 4 html layers on top of each other in Freeway (design/hub/spoke/nipple). The bottom layer is a jpg, the others are transparent gifs. PHP captures the variables and php markup items in each layer read the variable selected and replaces the color option in a URL string to display the images.
I can put a proper tutorial together when I have time.
If I can help more sooner my email is on my web site.
