Something (one of very few!) which annoys me a bit is the ‘Rounded
Rectangle’ tool. What I’d really like it to do, is allow me to set a
specific radius for the corners, rather than some arbitrary ‘small to
large’ slider, which then causes the radius to scale with the side
length.
Agreed. I miss the ability to do this, ala ClarisDraw.
My drawings are limited because of this - I get by
but it’s definitely a detriment, at least for me.
If it weren’t for the ability to import ClarisDraw documents
as a library of sorts I’d have no decent radius corners at all
and Intaglio would be of no use to me.
Best,
Randy

There is a workaround, but it is not simple : with the mouse and the
alt key it is possible to edit the corners

Marvellous !
when I draw a rectangle with rounded corners in RagTime, and drag and
drop it into Intaglio, I obtain the same rectanle as Bézier curve (!)
which can be edited ; try the same procedure from another software.

You mean it has survived 24 years in the Mac environment. I remember when Ragtime first came out way back in the early 80’s. i remember dad gave me a copy and I used it all the time.

you can preset the radius of the corners when you doubleclick on the roundedrectangle’ tool, but unfortunately when the rectangle has been drawn no change is possible any more (or I have not found !)

You can change and preset the radius, but not with any precision.
That is the concern voiced by Phil, and seconded by myself.
Editing the radius corner of an existing round rectangle is another
concern, hopefully addressed if and when the primary concern here
is addressed.

Thanks for your attention, but I do not understand what you are talking about.
I want to use Apple Works to set up simple ads with a headline, a price or offer at a restaurant or tanning salon, some contact data. Maybe scan in a photor or a clipping from the donor’s own advertising scrapbook. I am told you can do this in Apple Works, that Illustrator will be too burdonsome for me.
I can’t get the Help menu to relate to the terms I am using, like display ad or layout. What do you suggest I do to get started?
thanks

why not a special handle to edit the corners, as in RagTime
?

I recognize the need to adjust the radius of round rectangles. Once its drawn a round rectangle is just a path containing four arcs, so what is really needed is a way to adjust the radius and center point of the arcs in a path simultaneously. That’s something I’m investigating for a future version.
The current round rectangle tool actually scales the corner arcs as you adjust the aspect ratio of the rectangle. For example, a short and wide rectangle will have corners that are elliptical arcs whose x axis radius is larger than the y axis radius. I suppose it would be useful to be able to define a fixed corner radius and always get round (rather than elliptical corners). The main issue with this is that it would impose a minimum rectangle size when you’re drawing it, but this shouldn’t be a major problem.

The most simple thing would probably be to play with the sample drawings. Set up text blocks to represent your headline and copy and play with other the other graphics for your images.
