Satisfied Adobe CC customers...?

As I’m thinking of upgrading my MacPro Snow to Mavericks, I was just wondering if any of you guys are happy with their Adobe CC plan? Right now in the UK a monthly package is about £45.73 GBP per month. What if my next annual subscription or the one after that goes up unreasonably?

You may still have access to your artwork and files if you cancel your sub but if the time comes when Adobe get really greedy, you’re stuffed. You’re totally in their control and the choice to upgrade or not, has been removed.

Does anyone else have this concern?

You’re not wrong there, and yes, I too have similar concerns.

I’m on Yosemite and every time I upgrade the OS I worry that CS6 will stop working, fortunately it has not to date. ``so you could say I’m a very happy CC customer!!

I have not bought into the Adobe PAYG CC, and intend to avoid for as long as I can, CS6 actually does pretty much all of the things I need to do with layout, graphic creation and photo manipulation.

I took my MacPro Early 2008 to Yosemite, however I did slide in an SSD boot drive [Crucial 512] use the original drive to be the data drive, making SymLinks to the Documents, Music, Movies folders, BUT do leave the Library folder on the SSD. I also upped the memory from 7GB to 14GB and it flies along, like a new Mac.

Thanks Peter. My MacPro is (I think) a 2009 model, 2.93Ghz Nehalem so Mavericks should be fine. I’ve got 2 SSD’s and 16Gb, but I just checked out that CS6 is £1299 in the states, but did you know that translates to £1197 … rather than a true £850. Don’t you just hate being ripped off…??? Lol.

Count me in as a satisfied customer.

@ £7.14 per month I can certainly afford the 2 Abobe apps I use heavily everyday, PS and Lightroom. Plus that’s for 2 seats.

It might be a different story if I had to use the full CS suite.

Can you open Illustrator files in Affinity? What’s the difference between the two? If only their other apps where so reasonably priced.

They are also in alpha on Affinity Publisher a possible replacement for InDesign, hope!

I’m in the process of seriously ditching Adobe (illustrator and Photoshop).

Have you looked at Affinity Designer? ( £39.99 ~ App store) opens Illustrator documents. Also look at Affinity Photo (Beta)?

See MacAffinity in action here… Old account for Affinity

I’m very impressed so far and the sensible price makes Adobe prices laughable. Affinity Designer has already won me over and is now my go to vector app. And as soon as Affinity Photo is out of Beta I’m buying that too. There’s also page/publishing makeup app in the works to complete the suite - it will be interesting!

I opened a fairly complex CS6 ai file with no problems whatsoever.

It really is.

No, it’s not Ai. But I’ve been having a play and so far it’s the only app I’ve seen with the potential to be a viable replacement for it (Ai). I suspect for many people it’s all they will ever need.

I am impressed.

You should look at the roadmap for Affinity Designer on the Affinity Forum. It should more than enough for most Pro users.

I did. Very impressive.

I’m neither an Adobe fanboy or hater, but like others I too have been waffling on the subscription model.

I think Affinity found a new customer, at least for the time being.

All sounds good. So could I do away with Illustrator? What can Illustrator do that Affinity can’t. It seems a very strange decision to have 2 very similar apps, at very different prices.

Have you downloaded the Affinity 10-day trial? That should answer your questions.

They are two different apps. And Affinity aren’t wanting to duplicate Illustrators features. If you look at the app carefully they’re doing things that are different but better, quicker etc. Not as bloated as the way Illustrator works. A good sign is that I reach for this app first before opening wanting to open Illustrator.

Thanks for mentioning Affinity, David. I just grabbed the Photo beta. Really impressive so far.

If you use www.topcashback.co.uk you can get 21% off any purchase from
serif.com, including Affinity Designer (saving £8.40).

(And if you ever use a PC they have a sale on old versions of their
Windows design software: Affinity – Professional Creative Software )
