Screenflow Settings

Hey, I’m getting into doing screencasts and I’m just wondering what settings people use to output their files from Screenflow. I know Paul uses it for the Freeway Moments and those video’s come out crystal clear.

I usually record on my 1900x1200 desktop (Cinema Display) and then scale it down to about 960x600 and wondered if it’d be better to shrink the desktop down and then record but it seems I get a lesser quality on the output due to the quality of the desktop.

So anybody use this amazing software and what are some recommendations for output.

Thanks.

How about using a second smaller monitor just for this purpose? I know everyone doesn’t have extra monitors, but if you’re like me I have collection of older gear.

HI,
I record with my screen set to 1280x800 and scale down on export from there. I also have a second user, which is pretty much default everything, for the purpose of the Moments too - this means that Actions palettes are uncluttered with my large array of useful and seemingly random Actions, which would only confuse the casual onlooker.

Word of caution - ScreenFlow projects are not portable between PPC and Intel Macs. So if you do your screen captures on an Intel based Mac, you won’t be able to work on it on a PPC Mac. I susect that this is because there are major differences between what data is captures (and how it’s captured) between platforms. I am doing the Moments on my MacBook Pro for future proofing purposes.

Hope all this helps.

Do you use H.264 codec, or perhaps another one? Is there a better sound for better quality and smaller file size? I suppose I could mess around with it, but I’m redoing a few and adding a few and wouldn’t mind hearing from an experienced user and saving some time.

BTW, Paul I posted an action modification request in the Action Development section of this site to your “Page-Div Style action” released back in March or so. I was wondering if it could be modified to not include the unique class names (example: Untitled012asdflkj #item) because I have a template project and they’re all going to be using their own style sheets so the ID’s won’t be getting mixed up. Trying to achieve cleaner code. Any possibility of making that happen? Also, is there a way to decode existing actions? If i could edit the action myself I’d figure it out.

Mitchell - I saw this. That Action was released “as is” for FW3 as something of interest for those who wanted to experiment with such things. At the moment, I’m concentrating on getting the more proftbale Actions working nicely in FW5.

Ah, well thanks for the response anyway Paul. If I could de-code the action then I could probably do it myself. Any way to do that?
